Advice Italian lakes and borders

Have a 4 hour stint to cannobio today on lake maggoirie . We can either keep south and avoid crossing the Swiss border or skirt como and cross out into swirzerland and back into Italy - what appears to be a more scenic route . Thoughts and suggestions peeps ?

I think a lot depends on if you have a pass for the Swiss motorways if not and you're going anywhere near them I'd go the other way
