Quick question for all you MoHo fun people.
Went to our local Adria dealer to buy a new or second hand Motorhome and they were did not pressure us at all and left it to us but did not have one that we wanted but said we could order it ready for Feb/March 2025(no problem) but then we found the one we wanted at a discounted price at another dealer quite a way from us which were brilliant with their service and handover etc. I contacted my local dealer to ask if they could look after our new purchase for Hab checks and service/warranty and they said NO, we only look after our own customers!!
Has anyone else come across this issue and if so how did you resolve it?
I even asked my local dealer when I found the one I wanted if they could do an inter dealer trade etc so I could buy it from them and they said NO again!!
I am from the car/garage industry and fine this behavior very bemusing and frustrating😤😤

Many thanks

A very common problem. Unless Adria are prepared to tell them to do the warranty work, there is little recourse except to go back to the supplying dealer. I do not believe Trading Standards can help as you bought from a dealer who is the one responsible for any issues. It's a little like buying a super duper curved screen 100 inch TV on-line from the other end of the country because it's £200 cheaper than your local independent who also stocks that model. But then wanting the local guy to repair it when it doesn't do what you expect. Your contract is with the seller, not Adria.

Yet the official line from Adria has always been that any dealer will undertake the habitation service and process warranty work.
The reason they don't is because Adria (and other makes) offer such poor hourly rates for warranty work. The selling dealer can offset some of his loss against your purchase deal.
Habitation service is less of a problem but the prices vary a lot. One Adria dealer I contacted recently wanted £300 for a hab service. I had it done for £180 by an Adria authorised engineer. Shop around.

Hi and thanks for the reply. I can understand what you are saying to a degree but I don’t agree with the analogy. So if you went and bought a second hand or new car/van from a dealer be it Ford/Vauxhall/VW or any other from a dealer quite away from you solely because they had what you wanted in stock and your local one didn’t and would be 7-8mths before they could, I know the local
Manufacturer dealer would certainly look after it for me and not expect me to take it back to the original dealer I bought it from. So that is the car/van/truck industry (No problems) so why is the caravan/Motorhome industry so negative to the way that they are willing to look after the brand/manufacturers customers??
Our lesson has been learned and it’s NOT too much of an issue as we will always make a small holiday out of it if and when we have to go back to the supplying dealer.

Think it’s just a UK thing as when I bought my new van from a German dealer he could not believe UK dealers will only work on vans purchased from them, German dealers will work on any van.

I would advise doing your homework on whichever dealer you buy from. As with the car trade, some sales people will promise a lot but then after sales fail to deliver (as many on this forum have found to their cost). There have also been reported bankruptcies in the Caravan & Motorhome trade recently so be very careful how much you put down as deposit and arrange a speedy collection. I would have a look at any feedback on the dealer that there might be here on this forum and/or elsewhere. Sometimes today's saving can be tomorrow's headache.

Having said that, with a bit of due diligence, I hope all goes well and you end up with the van of your dreams. Enjoy!!

I was recently talking to an independent service centre that does not sell motorhomes or caravans. They are recognised by several manufacturers for servicing and warranty work but there are additional costs involved in warranty work on continental brands in the UK. He explained that the manufacturers were happy to supply the parts needed for warranty work but the importer had to meet the extra UK charges associated with import declarations. I do not pretend to understand exactly what he was explaining but I believe him when he says it is not as straightforward as we might think.

so, spill the beans ..... which Adria are you looking for/at? Early doors but if you put the deposit down is it worth you advertising your current motorhome on here, well in advance of the need to sell ....?

It’s not all dealers. We bought our Autosleeper, via one of the shows, from a dealer about an hour from home. They were an AS specialist but not Fiat Professional. They farmed out engine work to a local Fiat garage. We had a couple of snags sorted by them.
There was a recall on the van and it needed to go to a Fiat Professional garage. Nearest one, 20 mins from home, so took it there. Whilst there they commented that hab check would need doing soon and first year engine check, did we want to book it in? I explained not bought from them and asked about warranty work. They said, no problems, they were an AS stockist so they would do any work. As it happened no warranty work was necessary and I have no idea whether this was because it was a British van.
I guess it worked out for them because we were more inclined to buy the next van from them, which we did.
Interestingly we never heard from the first dealer after sorting the snags very early on.

You do not need an Adria dealer to keep the damp and other warranties valid. The documentation that came with ours specifically mentions being able to use any Approved Workshop.

Hi, we have already purchased it which is a Matrix 670DC supreme and loving her as she is doing everything we expected and more especially coming from a Campervan 👍👍👍

Very common with Caravan/MH dealers. My local will only do warranty repairs on their own vehicles, but will do private work at your cost no problem.
This is a mistake many make by buying from a distant dealer at the NEC for example. You will 99% need some warranty work in the first year.
