enough to know i shouldnt touch things i know nothing about ....
what have funsters done with the parking sensors when adding a towbar/chassis mounted cycle rack etc? it would seem to make sense that the sensors are only disabled when actually towing or when bike rack is fitted and plugged into the towing socket? For those with towbars etc, is this how the system works or are the sensors disabled completely when the wiring loom is installed (canbus).

i am about to buy a wiring loom but wondered if i actually had options. i would like the sensors to only be disabled when the rear lights are actually connected/plugged in? is that even possible?

Just on an aside my son has a nissan car. He had a tow bar fitted and pulls a small trailer for moving stuff odd jobs etc. The cars reversing sensors pick up that there is a trailer present and includes it in the reversing scenario.
Whether this is available for a van I don't know. But just for info.

May not be relevant, when I fitted a tow bar to my Citroen car, I had to get it programmed into the system. When towing the car's rear fog lamps are disabled, the reversing sensors and camera are disabled, lane departure is disabled plus a few other things to do with bulb failure etc.

Fitted a westfalia towbar with conventional flange fitting towball. The park sensors work as normal with towbar present.
Plug in the bike rack and the park sensors are switched off.
Fitted a flange towball as needed to be able to adjust towball location with spacer block to allow clearance for mtb wide handlebars to rear door.
