We have a PVC with 2 passenger seats at a table behind the driver. Whilst on the move, the sound from the cab radio doesn't reach those passengers unless we have the volume up at b747 jet engine level.

There are a number of previous posts discussing the audio connector in the b pillar (which I've checked is present in our van). As we already have a number of chargeable speakers used on our trips, I was thinking about fitting a 3.mm audio socket to the pillar (similar to https://uk.farnell.com/pro-signal/mj-073h/socket-3-5mm-jack-3pole/dp/1267396?MER=sy-me-pd-mi-acce) and then the passengers could plug their speakers in if wanted.

If this is possible is there any problem in connecting the -ve feeds in the Fiat socket to a single connector on the jack socket (4 wires from Fiat socket to 3 pins on the jack)

You could short the amp out when plugging in or unplugging anything to a 3.5mm jack socket. The output is at full speaker level from your head unit. You can fit phonos or speaker connectors but not a jack plug.

I did wonder about that as I know what ever I said the person who normally travels in that seat knows infinitely more than me on every topic and would plug / unplug when she wanted.
Originally I considered unpowered speakers / sound bar but haven’t found any small enough for placing on the table top. Small laptop sound bars all seem to have 3.5mm plugs

We had a similar problem but child in back did not want to hear my 80's music (heathen) and so adjusted the balance between front and rear speakers perhaps if you have speakers in the rear that might work for you.to change balance from Front to Back on the stereo.

Thank you for the suggestion. we dont have any speakers in the back of the van - hence why I was considering options to use the socket in the B pillar

Years ago I had a Panasonic head unit, the speaker negatives couldn't be paired up and they weren't at ground potential, I tried it and it caused distortion. Easiest way to get sound into the back is fit different or extra sockets. Or fit rear speakers.
