ADAC Repatriation to UK ... official reply

Why does everyone persevere with ADAC and then worry about if it works, there are loads of breakdown things that are British.
I have used them a few times and don't worry about how it works. They provide a superb service at a very reasonable cost..Will stay a member as long as they will have me.BUSBY.

while i am able to stay a member on the undoubted high level of benefits Partner plus gives i will pay my annual premium.

i have looked at all the UK offerings and nothing absolutely nothing comes remotely close for similar money.

When you are broken down in Romania or perhaps Croatia I know for a fact that a British company ain’t necessarily going to be able to solve your problem. The RAC sent a Transit van and trailer to recover a 7.5 mtr Motorhome, it didn’t fit on and even if it had it would have been grossly overloaded and unstable. Adac on the other hand were more likely to have the language skills and resources to offer an effective recovery.

The breakdown companies mainly use a specialist independent company usually in the country you break down in to arrange your breakdown/recovery problems..When i used ADAC in Spain the girl who dealt with my problem was based in Barcelona and did not work for ADAC,,Would imagine many breakdown companies use the same ones.Remember breakdown companies are just insurance firms,,,BUSBY.

that may well be an option IF things change at the end of this year..

but not looked at in depth to any difference in the level of cover. i can see it cover up to 7.5T through out the EU.

They even have their own plane for medical emergency repatriation . Friend was repatriated to Edinburgh after 7 weeks in intensive care in Limoges with sepsis . Flight cost £5500. Good job they had travel insurance . ADAC would cover this as well as the vehicle .

Is that with no limit on weight and dimensions?

But would you be covered in say Morocco or would they bring you back to UK if you were ill,,ADAC will..Not knocking other providers though.BUSBY.

I asked my German friend to translate the OP text it as google wasn't doing it well, and she came back with this:

Attached please find the wording in somewhat English. There are two passages that do not fit. In the beginning they state that you are entitled to all benefits if your foreign address is listed within the membership. Towards the end of the paper they state that you are being transported to your place in Germany. If I were you I would contact them in Munich in my best English. Please DO SPEAK SLOWLY - YOU WILL MOST PROBABLY NOT FIND A BRIT TO ANSWER THE PHONE

Now I do think we don't get repatriation, but will try to speak to them, and come back

PS we always take out annual travel insurance, and last 4 years best for us has been the C&CC with health issues.

I am not with ADAC. I never have been. I can only tell you of a conversation I had with a lady who was packing her things away on an adjoining pitch at Ria Formosa on the Algarve last month.
Apparently her husband had suffered a stroke while in Portugal and had been medivaced back to the UK. This had been done prior to their Insurers ADAC knowing of his situation.
Once that had been established, ADAC provided a driver to drive the couples car/caravan back to the UK. The Co. also provided air tickets back to the UK for the lady and, when they had established the medical reason for the repatriation of the husband, they reimbursed the couple the cost of the repatriation.
On a regular basis we hear about the penny pinching, scheming, downright awful attitude of some breakdown Companies who do not seem to comprehend the words "Customer Service"
ADAC do not seem to fall into that category and I am disappointed that I cannot be one of their customers.

the reason we are with ADAC is because we lived in Germany for 6 years a lifetime ago and was very familiar with the proactive support they provide.
i am certainly happy with the reply i have had and as i have already stated will continue my membership as long as i am able.

But, as i also often say; each of us makes our own decisions based on our findings and beliefs..

When we were in the South of France last year we had been out on the motor bike, stopped to have a check of the map to see where to go, but when we went to go "nothing" no power. Tried to bump start down a long hill one fart out the exhause and no go, so phoned ADAC as the battery was dead. Was told to wait 5 minutes and someone would be in touch, sure enough call arrived on time from a French dispatcher (both calls in English), again told to wait 20 minutes for a breakdown wagon.
Sure enough after a quick call from driver as he could not find us, he arrived. Jump started from a battery, fine, disconnected battery, stopped battery definitely dead.
Bike had to be loaded onto the lorry and then taken back to our campsite, overall laps time was about hour and a half and this was on a Sunday.
So on this basis as evidence of their care for customers, will gladly continue to renew with ADAC.

I have just renewed my ADAC plus membership and had confirmation that nothing has changed regarding my policy , I specifically asked about repatriation of Vehicle if a major breakdown and the operator said nothing has changed. I also mentioned medical repatriation and again he said nothing has changed.
He spoke very good English and sent me a email with PDF of current benefits.

Hi

For purposes of ADAC membership I tried the e mail address ( service2@adac.de ) which was shown earlier in this thread , after 2 weeks no reply ,so am assuming it is not regularly checked. I Also tried other e mail addresses for ADAC that I found on line , again nil response

Does anyone have an e mail address for ADAC which is known to be monitored by them and gets messages replied to. Thanks.

I think breakdown and travel insurance overlap on some things, I have no experience of ADAC but see that I am covered on both my nfu travel insurance and also my greenflag breakdown for getting me home if I can not drive the motorhome., Why the need for both to cover the same thing?

7.5T me believes.. look on the LV breakdown site there is a pdf of info
LV Breakdown Cover policy wording document attached.

Thanks for the heads up, (y)

Covers motorhomes up to 7.5T, but max of 8m in length. We are a fraction too long but it looks a good deal for many.

I agree i am looking at this from a positive viewpoint....

but what i dont get ....... if the Conditions for UK members on this particular point had changed, then why have they quoted to me T&Cs that specifically says it is covered. ( given certain circumstances which are the same to all members )

Surely it was easier for them to point me at correspondence that already existed that said simply; Repatriation to the UK is no longer covered since a given date..

I would have expected any significant changes in T&Cs that effected any group of members to have been sent to the individual member concerned.
There has only ever been 1 communication regarding changes that has come my way and that was regarding changes to coverage of the regular magazine. that it was no longer viable to send out to UK members and therefore is stopped.

So those of us who can renew our ADAC cover have a choice to make... Renew or Not!!

rightly or wrongly .... I choose to believe that from the correspondence that i have been sent by ADAC that the specific point I inquired about is covered.
Hi flatpackchicken,
I have just received a letter in a similar vein some 3 days ago, my membership would've been due in November, however, my under-
-standing is that ADAC have removed all cover associated with plus cover, and ALL cover for ANY member living OUTSIDE of
Germany e.g. UK will only have basic breakdown cover membership, which in effect means if a UK resident breaks down in any country other than Germany, they will have NO cover at all, if a UK resident breaks down in Germany then he will only get basic roadside cover or recovery to a local garage, in other words the same as if you were broken down in UK with basic AA or other breakdown companies cover, which is little better than useless, I do believe that I have got it right.

What strikes me on reading this thread is it sounds like ADAC are providing an excellent service at too low a cost except for people who live in Germany and have therefore decided to restrict the service to people who live there. To me that just is the way it is. Some might feel agrieved that they cannot enjoy the service they have previously had but another way of looking at it just rejoice that you had it on the cheap in the past.

I went with ADAC a few years ago, as I had heard good things on here about them. The reason I only stayed for one year was what seems to be the issue here - everything was in German (understandably as they are a German company) , and I just could not be sure what was covered & what was not, & had difficulty contacting them. In the end, I decided not to renew, & it was at this point I discovered I should’ve given three month notice to cancel. They tried to take another years payment, despite me saying I did not want to renew, and sent threatening letters for some time afterwards, insisting that as I hadn’t given the required 3 months notice to cancel, that I owed them another years premium. All attempts at communicating failed, so I ignored them in the end & they eventually stopped. I found it quite intimidating, and I know it was my fault as I don’t speak German, but still...! I would never recommend them for this reason! I’m with Nationwide now, which offer similar cover along with other benefits for very slightly more money.
