We've run out.
Normally we sporadically collect them in change. Current stelplatz only accepts coins; we need 15 ...

Is it worth traipsing to a bank in the hope of exchanging paper for metal ?

When in Bodensee we needed coins for the stelplatz. Mad system. Everyone was trying to get change. We tried banks who wouldn't give us change because we didn't have an account. We ended up getting change from the tourist office but their last coins. I expected Germany to be modern and with the latest tech but found it was just the opposite.

Blimey, Nigel, you live in Spain. I'd have thought you, like us, has a pot of coins ready to use.

We kept our €1 and 50c coins and took all the other bits to a new coin change machine. Martin came away with over €40 from all the small denomination coins.

The money exchange place in Chichester I use keep coins and I normally ask for €40-50 in coins when changing up a few hundred pounds.
I do find the small denomination coins a pain to get rid of when away though!!

When going to a supermarket use a self-checkout and then pay by 'feeding' it with all the coins you want to get shot off (not if they are busy though) ... We paid for a few large bags of dog food by doing this and it was fun too, a bit like feeding the drop coin type arcade machines without losing the money! 😄
