Well, I think we are about to bite the bullet and make an order. We have decided to go for an A-Class Mobilvetta K-Yacht with rear lounge, drop-down bed. The payload isn't great but we think workable with an upgrade. We have viewed the vehicle several times and I have a test drive booked.
Can anyone advise as to-
1. What we should expect to come with the vehicle as standard
AND
2. what we could negotiate to be included as part of the deal - alarm/tracker etc.

Thanks for your help.

Congratulations on making a choice, do make double sure the pay load will work, it's no fun if you have to worry about everything you want to take with you, but if you are comfortable with it ok.
I would try for a solar panel and reversing camera, if a tracker and alarm aren't forthcoming,
Good luck with test drive.

Thanks for your suggestions Carol. It comes with 120w solar panel and reversing camera so Tracker and alarm it may be. Re. the payload, I was down at the NEC show last week and I was surprised how many new A-Class had a similarly low figure. We will upgrade the chassis to improve this.

Can you not get the weight upgrade as part of the deal?

I take it this is from marquis
Which branch are you ordering from
Extras I'd ask for would be
Free weight upgrade
And maybe a gas bottle
These your likely to get
I'm sure they come with a tracker with 12 months subs
Hook up cable and a bit of diesel

Alugas LPG system as opposed to Gasit/Gaslow? The former are lighter given payload may be an issue. Please, please make sure you are really comfortable with the payload and that it suits what you want to do with your vehicle. I.e bikes, skiing etc if these are things you do. Any chance of pushing for a heavy chassis upgrade even if you have to wait? All just my thoughts of course!

Hope it all works out for you.

Hi TerryL,
I'm working on it - I can get it upped to 3650kg which would give me payload of 490kgs but to get it up to 1200kg they are asking £1400. I'm already pushing my luck price wise!

Hi, It is Marquis but Durham which seems to get reasonable feedback.

We were in exactly the same position re payload when we bought ours, slept on it and bit the bullet and went for the heavy chassis upgrade. Never regretted it. I sound like a broken record I know, but in the scheme of things is £1400 really going to break the bank if you have to pay for it?

Go on do it you know it makes sense as Del boy would say!!

I'll say no more going off to fix a bike inner tube!

Guess you're right and thanks.

we too looked at the K yacht and were blown away by the style and layout, however I wanted to keep the option of a useful payload under 3500kg if the need arises so for us the upgrade wasn’t an option. If that hadn’t been a consideration I’d have booked one on the spot!

My mates got a 3.5 t one as that all he is licenced for, its bloody lovely inside BUT he put a towbar on and a spare wheel and he would not be able to make use of the rear seats as he would be over weight, the 45 litre fuel tank annoys him on a long journey, if you are uprating the weight ask about putting a bigger fuel tank on it

Thanks Alistair, - any downside to scaling up the chassis?

My understanding, from recent conversations with Gareth at SV Tech is that you can up it to whatever it will go to.

If it's over 3500, then at 70 you'll need to take a medical to keep your C1 (sooo it's possible that this may affect your resale value, possible)

It's also possible to DROP it to whatever it will go (at a later date), all that's needed for this is a weighbridge ticket, I believe...

Cheers

Thanks Red,
So if I have got this right, affecting our resale value as there will be fewer people able to drive it without taking the C1 test?

But on the other side of the coin, there are a lot of younger Motorhomers coming through, I for one was very impressed with the Mobilvetta, a breath of fresh air away from the usual, our Adria is 4000kg and I would not go any lower on the payload

Definitely go for the heavier chassis, then in 3 yrs I'll have it off you (y)

Decision....We are going to go for a Mobilvetta K80 on an uprated chassis to 4400kg. I have taken heed of the warnings from forum members re.payload. It is also one of the few A-Class models that falls within our budget to buy new.
It comes fairly well equipped with:-
Heated windscreen,
Underfloor heating,
Sat-nav,
Rear Camera,
Solar Panel
ESP, Hill-Hold, Hill descent,
Etc.
We also liked the rear lounge with electric drop-down bed and thought this would give us a bit of space to spread out .

I think I am correct in thinking that the heavier chassis may mean speed restrictions but the change to upgrade payload is worth it.
Can't thank folk enough for their support.

Thanks Red,
So if I have got this right, affecting our resale value as there will be fewer people able to drive it without taking the C1 test?

Or statutory Medical at 70 yrs...

Personally I'd Max it Out, but be mindful of the facts when you come to sell...

I did also mention that you can apply to DROP the weight when you come to sell it too... ;-)

Cheers

We bought from Marquis Ipswich and they did a starter pack which we got them to throw in as well as an awning (Benimar 346, can't stretch to a Mobilvetta). I would assume Durham will do the same. It is worth having if you haven't motorhomed before as it has pretty much everything you will need but not thought of - loo chemicals, hook-up cable, fire extinguisher, gas bottle, gas bottle spanner, water tank cleaner, black streak remover, water hose and several other bits and pieces.

Wow! Thanks for that - you're right I hadn't thought of such items but I will raise my expectations when it comes to handover!
