I bought some AA and AAA batteries from Lidl last year.
I've just charged them and put in a dab radio which immediately came up with a low voltage message and shut down.
On reading the small print on the batteries it states 1.2 volts
I'd assumed they'd be 1.5 v being AA ?

Anyone come across this before ?
It seems at 1.2 volts they may be useless.

And no I don't have the receipt to return them

Most of the AA and AAA rechargeables I have seen and used are all lower voltage than 1.5 .Not had many issues with them but don't use so many now as we used to.

Rechargable battery technology is different to ordinary batteries you loose .3v per battery hi tech items will not like them.

A lot of small electronics is 3.3v internally, and has 3 battery slots, so NiMH is fine.

But some stuff is 5v and can be picky when 4 batteries only supplies 4.8v.

Occasionally the device tries to measure battery life and assumes alkaline batteries. So when it sees 1.2v per cell, it thinks it's about to die. But it may otherwise function fine.

Rechargeable AA & AAA are always 1.2v.
5hey should still run a radio.
It is possible to get 1.5v rechargeables, I have some and they work well... but they are a lot more expensive than the 1.2v variety.

Dab are power hungry:

5 x 1.5v batteries = 7.5v

5 x 1.2v rechargables = 6v

You have lost the equivalent of a battery, would you expect it to run on 4 batteries instead of five?

There are lithium ion AA batteries that push out 1.5v. But they're extremely expensive. And as they have to squeeze in the charging, battery management and voltage regulation circuits, they are actually lower capacity than NiMH. They do charge quickly though.
