Anyone planning on using the A10 motorway through France, perhaps en-route past Bordeaux to Spain, in the next few days (us included!) needs to be aware that there is a lot of disruption caused by farmers protesting. The situation is fluid but Poitiers and Nantes are currently affected as is the A63 on the south side of Bordeaux. I live near Junction 34 of the A10 and St Jean d'Angely had a solid jam of lorries diverting through it today.
I've not seen much about this on British TV but there is blanket coverage on French stations. The Vinci Autoroutes web site is probably the best place to start for up-to-date info. At the moment the situation is still in the escalation phase. Unfortunately using alternative main roads will not be an easy solution because everyone else is doing that too. If I can find a better source of information I will post on here.

Any idea what the protest is about?

Cost of living, fuel tax escalator being re-imposed after a break, "r" in the month etc etc. It doesn't take much at the best of times. The A63 carries a huge amount of freight traffic to Spain and Portugal so is a good target for getting attention quickly from the government. Interestingly enough the government are sympathetic to their concerns but asked the leaders to think about the common good! Very French.

Fed up with their Government. German farmers have been at it for a while now. And our MSN remain relatively quiet about it as usual!

Also doesn't help that a French protestor on a barrier was killed in an accident yesterday and her 14 year old daughter and husband critically injured. The driver was a failed asylum-seeker who is in the process of being deported so several other political bases being covered too. The Prime Minister is newly appointed and very young for that job so maybe they are trying him out.

Another OQTF? So many reported crimes seem to involve OQTFs.

Back on topic this protest is becoming Europe-wide, caused mainly by the left-wing/green/eco war against farming on alleged grounds of reducing pollution.

There is a live map on the VINCI Autoroutes site under the "Trafic Temps Réel tab but I've also found a list of current problems on The Connexion newspaper site. It records the problem that you had and there are a few more on your route south. Very best of luck!

The young girl who was critically injured has sadly died. The government are caught between a rock and a hard place. The farmers have widespread support in many rural areas.

oh dear,
Perhaps not reading the QAnon and other conspiracy theory websites would help.

The farmers may not like it, but lets just all agree that the Dutch know a thing or two about sea levels,
As the biggest creator of C02 in the Netherlands are cows, then the cows need to be reduced.

Many, many ,many years ago when emissions, global warming, climate change first started being an issue they stated then that anything 'natural' ,which included all types of animals & particularly cows , were not included in the % that was man made.
All this appears now to have been conveniently forgotten now that it suits the agenda.

Good for the French, all farmers here would do is write to the Daily Telegraph.

OK, I've wracked my brain for long enough without working it out! If it is not going to disturb anyone of a delicate disposition can you explain what an OTQF is please.

Sorry, should used the correct abbreviation OQTF. As explained in Orion's helpful link.

See also this article that says only 8.5% got deported and there were an estimated 5,000 voluntary returns in 2021. There might be 120,000 OQTFs still at large. It also sheds light on how other EU countries are dealing with the same problem. The UK is not alone in this situation.

During the 70/80s I frequently used the roads in the “Fens”
A10s were abundant then and I felt they used to line me and my car up for virtual target practice before flying off. Can you imagine a quick burst on the Gatling gun and I would be toast. My neighbor is a USAF pilot and he said this is indeed true, and they did use vehicles for this purpose. 😮

When we lived outside Elgin, the Tornadoes at Lossiemouth used our house as a landmark for their circuit and bump training. My brother in law was a squadron leader on the base let it slip one day (b*st*rd!).

Brother left the Navy and went to work for Westland’s, just when they started the Apache attack helicopter program. Spoken to many army pilots who would tell how they used traffic on the A303 in the same manner 👍🏻

From personal experience I know how expensive it is to set up formal trials like that. Good practice for free. Also helps that the cars can't fire back!

We have the Wildcats and Chinooks on night exercise going up the Exe Valley, often flying below us if we’re on the tops - great to view through a thermal spotter as the Wildcats are surprisingly quiet. I’ve had a Merlin doing circuits some miles away suddenly veer off and hover a few hundred metres above me - probably attracted by the the night vision I was using and/or the heat signature from the quad. Either way I quickly turned the infrared off to avoid any unwarranted 20mm interest!

I remember a roundabout near Lourdes with severely burnt tarmac and the slogan (in French) saying something like, "death to conservationists". a well balanced argument I thought!

It also mentioned "Frexit"! Yes, it was about that time!

The traffic on the A5 in the Ogwen Valley in Snowdonia is also used.
There is a dish on the hillside above Ogwen Cottage when the valley does a 90 degree bend, which they have to hit with a laser just before they turn.

Much like the Star Wars Death Star bombing run in the trench.

If you are up Tryfan, it quite impressive seeing the fast jets below you doing their low level bombing run followed by the turn.
(Any mistake and there is rock in 3 directions!)
