We’re on the road to Santiago de Compostela. I’ve started a blog if you need help to get to sleep at night! But we’ve just had a problem with acceptance of our ACSI card in tonight’s campsite. Just thought travellers might benefit from being warned.

Here’s a summary:

Well, we’ve made it to near Llanes. We looked up a nearby campsite - Camping Colombres, Ribadedeva - checked its reviews. All in order.

Mike waved his ACSI card at reception, but was told this wasn’t good enough - it had to be the paper copy that comes with the handbook. We’ve removed this at some point. Now, we have a plastic version with valid dates. It expires January 2019. No, this wasn’t good enough.

My tired husbsnd caved in and paid the full price. Wait for it - almost 30 euros. It’s rural, most facilities shut. It should have been at an ACSI rate of 17 euros.

Gobsmacked.

Might be worth contacting ACSI customer services

Our staff are available from Monday to Friday between 07:30 and 16:00.

Phone: +31(0)488-471434

We are closed on the 2nd and on the 27th of April 2018. Our apologies for the inconvenience.

The plastic card is not the discount card that’s why they wouldn’t accept it. They are so you don’t have to leave your passport with reception.(y)(y)(y)

Exactly as Speve has said - the plastic card is almost certainly the ACSI Club ID card, NOT the discount card.

Essential to use the paper card that comes in the guidebooks each year. Only those will be recognised for the discount.

It's perfectly easy to get the plastic ID card without subscribing the to ACSI discount scheme, at the cost of just €4.95 euro - but it is just for ID. :(

Hope you can find the original card from the guidebooks you subscribed to.

Sounds like you didn't show the current valid ACSI 2018 discount card, which is what you MUST DO in order to get the ACSI discount rate.
That is the card that comes in the ACSI book.
If you don't show that 2018 card, you don't get the 2018 ACSI rate.

It's clearly explained in the guide book and on their website.
The discount card is only valid for the calendar year stated on it, and must be shown to get the discount.

It is NOT the separate plastic "ID card".

Campsite Reception were correct. You get the 2018 ACSI discount if, and only if, you show the 2018 ACSI discount card.

Where did you put the 2018 discount card when you separated it from the book? You need to find it to show to campsites if you are wanting the discount rate.

I lost my fp card a couple of years ago. I found that I put it in my wallet with the credit cards for safe keeping.

Thanks to all. No one has queried it before so we were caught out. We did have an email confirming membership but this was insufficient. A great search will be made when we get home!

Trust me. You will search the house top to bottom, twice.
You will then find the card in the van!
