Anuone have experience of buying and using the TAF Chesterfield A frame/

We bought an A Frame from them earlier this year. I have a Morris 1000 and wanted to tow it. I spoke to them on the phone, booked the Morris in and then, months later, dropped it off for a few days before picking it up with the Motorhome. They are VERY thorough. I received an information pack, mainly contains information backing up the use of an A Frame in the rest of Europe, which we will never do, but also useful lists of local taxis and camping sites near Chesterfield.
Their prices started around £800 but we paid a little more. The Morris is one of the lightest cars on the road and is very basic in terms of its electrics. The A Frame is robust but I can lift it quite easily. It folds into a shape 31” x 10” x 7” with the “bits" in a separate bag. The brake extension rod is stored with the frame.
The addition to the chassis is solid and, in my admittedly amateur opinion, very well engineered.
So, as far as buying 10 out of 10.
Attaching the A Frame definitely gets easier with practice. I have photographed the process and would be happy to send you the photos. A photo showing the car being towed is attached.
The hardest part is lining up the A Frame with the tow ball but my wife gives me series of signals. I drive the car to the motorhome but people on here have suggested I reverse the motorhome and make use of the reversing camera.
Driving with the car attached is really simple, unless you have to reverse even a little. But it is really easy to disconnect, move both vehicles, and then re-hitch.
I am always nervous towing, but that is more of a general anxiety than any fear of using the A Frame, which is really easy to tow.
I have towed to Foxhanger (Devizes), Broadway, Brecon and Gowerton.
If you have any questions do not hesitate to ask. It is a large undertaking and I would be happy to show you the A Frame in use but the Morris is being rejuvenated at the moment.

Biggest problem with TAF is getting it done! They simply are not very good getting back to you and.........they want the funds up front. Fine if they can stick to a completion date but they just don't seem to be able to?
There are others that can and do....search around.

I had no problems, agreed a date, confirmed it and dropped the car off. I did say that they could have it as long as it took, so that might have helped. It was convenient for me for them to keep it for five days.
As far as payments goes, we paid a deposit and then the rest at the time.

If it was in the last 2/3 years ..you did well. We were asked by the owner / secretary / stand in ...( A lady) for full payment up front and that it could take up to 3 to 4 weeks. Emphasis being on the "Could" bit...... as she said that they were extremely busy at the time which beckoned the question.........Why not just set a date and stick to it? If she was to have said 3/4 week and it would have been done then fine...but she could not. She would want our payment but could not confirm a date? Personally .....i don't think that was acceptable? Then it was a personal choice of course.

Obviously I can only relate my experience. I know that mine was only the second Morris 1000 they had done. I kept in touch with Janice via e-mail and was told that they often have to work out the best way to do the job when they have the car. I have just looked at their web site and there is a message stating that they are working under COVID restrictions so jobs may take longer.
I know they have a waiting list and I suppose that, if they take your money, or at least a deposit, then they know you will turn up.
The reason I chose them was because of recommendations on here. I wasn’t disappointed.

I had a nearly new Suzuki celerio done by them end of June, they were doing a Morris minor at the same time could have been conal s car. from memory £200 deposit up front with booking confirmed and waiting time was 8 weeks. Very happy with work and worth the wait. Unfortunately he probably suffered the same as my own business, suddenly 3 times the amount of work you can cope with turns up in a matter of months. I’ve had a month of turning away new customer away, I’ve never had to do that in 18 years of being in business.

DandG5515 Yes I am sure it’s was mine. The owner was telling me that, after a busy working life, he was interested in A Frames as a link to his hobby and a part time retirement job became a full time occupation due to demand. He has a few of his own cars parked outside the workshop that he intends to work on, if he ever gets the time.😳

Yes dropped mine off Wednesday morning @ 9am, he finished it @ 7.15pm that night as I live 160 miles away. (He also completed the wiring on my new towcar towbar). On the Thursday he did my mates new hybrid panda, while doing you car.

I don’t think he will have time to complete his other projects.

Thanks everyone for some comprehensive replies. My perception is that its a good product but service and delivery can be a bit iffy. Other option is Towbar2tow car of Grimsby. Have a little experience of them but they are expensive at £2.150. However excellent product with a brilliant braking system. Might just bite the bullet.
