enough to know i shouldnt touch things i know nothing about ....
I struggled to find a microwave that would fit into a small cupboard above our fridge. The cupboard was originally intended for a slide out TV. i eventually found one for sale in Argos

not the most expensive, but it was in black and it was small enough to fit and at £65 was worth a try!! Well after using it via the inverter and it tripping the hookup a couple of times (admittedly with other things running at the same time) i decided to explore lower wattage models, i initially thought that using it at reduced power setting meant a reduction in the power being consumed, i.e. 700W on 50% power would only be drawing 350W, but quickly found out that it meant it would still draw 700W but for only 50% of the time! DOH!

i was pointed towards this company that sell microwaves that they adapt to run at less power. i asked if they could/would adapt my own microwave, they asked me to remove the cover and send some photos and they would be be able to advise me.

i did as instructed and they told me yes they could at a cost of around £50 inc VAT - they also sell Dometic ones (with no turntable) for around £190 which they again adapt to run at 500w and white or silver ones for a bit less.

my issue was with the size, so decided to stick with what i knew fitted and looked (almost) original to the motorhome, so took mine in for adapting.

it took less than an hour for them to do the job (thanks Trevor !)

i had a word with Trevor afterwards and mentioned there may be others who might want their microwave adapting and although he cant guarantee yours might be 'adaptable' - he should be able to tell if you can take some photos of the microwave with its cover removed (obv DONT use it like that !) and send them to him.

His location/shop is near Ashford in Kent, so if anyone is going to the Tunnel or Ferry then its near enough to stop over. Apparently there is a pub/restaurant with a large car ark close by, so you might be able to overnight there prior to travel and have your 'work' carried out, or just by an already converted one from him?

All in all. mine has cost me £120 and i know lots or people dont consider microwaves as part of motorhome life, but i am sure just as many do like the convenience and some will have had the experience of tripping the EHU connection.

Perhaps this is one solution?

I'm not a microwave expert but there's a capacitor in some that remains charged even when unplugged and apparently it's dangerous, so don't touch anything inside 🤞👍

So what input wattage was it and what is it now?

Hi, very interesting and informative post.

No that's the output power the input power will be higher, just found this on the web:

I assume that it will be reduced proportionally? If so it would be 785/821 watts

He did say it had gone from drawing almost 6 Amps to around 3.5 Amps at 240v (he gave me the exact figures but I can't remember them !!), so by my reckoning it should be ok now on 6amp ehu's. As I said earlier, not everyone wants to use a microwave, but we do !!

There is a calculation to give current draw at 12v for use with an inverter, but I'm sure someone will be along soon to offer the answer (hopefully)

If it’s drawing 3.5A @ 240v then it’s 840 Watts, to run it from an 12v inverter would be 70Amps.
