So, it would seem that this is the best thing to fix solar panels to a roof with, but where’s the best place to buy it from? Also, what thickness is best to use?

I’ve built racking in my motorhome garage out of 30x30mm aluminium profile and I would be more than happy with this on the roof with solar panels fixed to it.

Got mine from here…

Plenty of aluminium angle sellers on eBay with way more sensible prices than the likes of Wickes or B&Q. (y)
Just bought a length of 50 x 50mm x 3mm for solar panel mounting the other day from eBay.

I used 50x50x3 for mine. It's probably over engineered as 2mm thick would do. I also used rivnuts to secure the panel to the angle. That way I can take it out easily if needed. I also bought a panel

that had plenty of watts but also fitted with the ribs on my Ducato roof, much easier to bond down

B&Q last time I had to get a single piece. Did me for fitting 2 panels.

Used these last time, best price I could find at the time, great service and delivery.

I used these for my panels , when placed fore and aft they stop the wind getting under when moving, and a nice wide adhesive area. https://www.photonicuniverse.com/en...ls-to-motorhomes-caravans-boats-or-roofs.html

Look up "metal supermarkets" and see if there is one near you.

Ask a local sign maker, they will have tons of offcuts.
Ex sign maker myself.

75 x75mm for me, but in 150mm lengths. More grab area for the roof,+ more space under the panel to aid cooling and cleaning under it.
Mike.

I use Droitwich aluminium they are on ebay and delivery. I find them cheaper if you phone and pay when you collect.

I've always used 50x50 2mm thick eBay normally cheapest. 3mm is a bit OTT.

50x50x2mm...the metalstore online me.

I rarely got to shops/stores if I can help it.

Can I ask each of you who have used Ali, why did you pick the size you did? I have some 20x20 which feels big enough and strong enough for the job.

50 x 50 gives a reasonable contact area for the adhesive I wouldn't want to go smaller.
Also the panels have a good air gap and you can do a reasonable job of cleaning under them without having to unbolt them.

50 x 50 x 3 gives good surface area for adhesive and lifts the panel high enough for good air flow
