getting stuck down country lanes since 2016
If I am counting correctly we have a 5 speed auto box on our little Exsis - 2.8jtd Ducato base.

Anyone have any experience of these in terms of servicing changing the oil etc?

It runs mostly fine but is sometimes a little tight shifting from park, a little odd between third and fourth where it doesn’t seem to change up or down soon enough. The manual change up and down doesn’t seem to operate (shift lever left in drive and move up or down is mostly inoperative).

Any thoughts or links to the manuals etc?

Many thanks ☺️

Has it got a transmission dip stick? The symptoms you describe are often caused by low oil. I believe the oil should be a nice red colour too, and not too stinky.

Don’t think it has a dipstick.

I’m going to have to get it on ramps and look from underneath as can’t see much from above.

We also have a 5 speed auto box on our 2016 Hymer called a 'Comfort-Matic' box, which you may or may not have, as I don't know your Hymer model. There are loads of posts on here for this box, which needs skilled attention to service but there are one or two quick fixes you can try on the road before needing the skilled technician.

I don't think the comfortmatic was an option in 2004, I think they came later so hopefully the OP has a full torque converter automatic?

Thought I should revisit this. The auto box is a ZF 4HP20. It’s a standard torque converter and fitted to Ducato 244 platforms around 2004-2006 with the 2.8jtd engine. The little Exsis we have was produced in those years. I think the auto is only on lhd models like ours.

It feels like five speed but that’s some slip until it locks into maybe second gear.

Finally getting the oil and filter changed.

Fwiw it’s not the same as LandRover some of which have 4HP22 boxes. A shame as filters etc are readily and cheaply available.

Will see how we get on after the oil and filter change.

Will report back in case it’s helpful.

ZF auto boxes are as good as you can get and are fitted in cars as well as 44 tonners. I wish our Hymer had one instead of the Comfort Matic box. The newer Hymers and other mhomes use them now too. Best of luck with your problem.

Thank you

It mostly runs fine but has some oddities.

Like the driver 🤔
