My camper was stolen and recovered within 3 days in early October. The would-be thieves ripped out the EHU and wiring from under the dash rendering the van undrivable. Fast forward to late January and it is still in the repair shop with no sign of a completion date. Having ruined our Christmas and new year holiday plans, we are now contemplating the loss of Easter plans too. I have been trying to get the insurance company (Axa) via the broker (Lifesure), to consider a total loss claim so that I can purchase a replacement and move on. . . no joy with that request. . . There must be a point when this would qualify as a write-off, but there is no indication of what a cut-off point might be. Does anybody have experience on this kind of issue?

That is a long wait for parts.
If that was the main ECU that was ripped out that is a fiat part not Adria. Would have thought a main dealer could get the parts and sort it.
I think the only way you will get the insurance company to move is if Fiat confirms that parts are not available.
Or that the repair is uneconomical.

Probably due to just in time manufacturing and semi conductor issues and no capacity for spare parts.

Not aware of any control units under the dashboard so presumably they are waiting for the fusebox.
Plenty on eBay

Problem is insurance likely won’t pay if parts are not from fiat source. Can’t see them accepting parts bought on EBay.

Surely better for them than paying to write off the moho
I guess it’s no skin off the insurance company’s nose to wait as long as they like for the officially sourced parts. The issue of writing it off has already be asked and declined. Presume garage will charge storage that should push cost up towards writeoff value.

Any back street garage could sort these things out by next week 🤷🤷😠😠
Insurance claim been registered with insurance company whether you continue claim or not it will be recorded as a claim which you will have to declare and likely increased premiums. Rock and a hard place now.

I had another chat with garage today. The dashboard has been badly damaged. It’s not a regular dashboard as fitted to the commercial version of the Fiat, It’s one that Fiat make, especially for Adria and incorporates an airbag. Hence the delay in delivery as it has to be, especially sourced apparently.

Passenger airbag has been an option since day 1 of the X250/290 and is just a module that fits into the universal dashboard so not sure where they're struggling.

Looked at some pictures of both base Ducato and the Adria and they look the same apart from the airbag on the passenger side.

Would it be quicker to buy the parts direct from Adria in Slovenia, and then drive there in a car and pick them up ?
(Or get them sent a friend somewhere within a few hours of one of the mainland ferry ports in France or Holland)

It may sound crazy, but now that we are not part of the EU, the UK is bottom of every list and they only send spares to the UK when they have enough to fill a consignment, and its worth doing all the paperwork.
Even for a company such as Adria that may be quarterly at best.

I was after some parts recently:
I have a German Amazon account with an address in Austria:
On Amazon.de the cost was €14 and delivery within 5 days to anywhere in the EU.
On Amazon.uk the cost was £27 and delivery to the UK was 6 weeks.

I'll wait until our next trip and get them delivered to a campsite in France

This sounds weird.
I have an Adria Twin and this makes no sense to me. The dashboard is an standard Fiat Ducato.
Could it be that they are not giving you completely reliable information?

We had a sensor fail at 2000 miles on our Fiat based Adria, common problem. Wait for parts in UK was weeks. Ours failed when we were in France, contacted Fiat recovery, drove to local Fiat garage (not main dealer) next day, fixed in an hour under warranty.
In contrast the main head unit was faulty from manufacture, vehicle broke down several times whilst in transit between factory and dealer. FIAT said wasn't warranty issue as vehicle hadn't been registered, Adria weren't interested as they had been paid and dispatched vehicle. We should have had delivery in July, took until November to sort out between dealer and FIAT commercial garage, each insisting repair was others responsibility

A friend had his Fiat based motorhome stolen&recovered shortly afterwards, damaged, about 18 months ago and it took about 12 months before it was repaired/returned. Not a good situation.

I repeat, yet again, I'm glad I bought a PVC! 🤔

What is the point of all those 'special' adaptations, if, when needed, they are not available? 😡
Does anyone remember when the Japanese cars were first introduced into this country, a garage had to have in the parts store, a complete car BEFORE it was allowed to hold a franchise by the company?
How times have changed!

They seem very responsible. I can’t really fault them. They want to fix it and get on.. it’s a genuine delay on parts . My beef is insurance.. there should be a ‘total loss’ time clause .. can’t see that happening

It might be worth getting legal advice if you have it on your home insurance.

I'm sorry for my earlier rant but it gets me so angry to read that someone's expensive vehicle has been standing in a garage waiting for parts when it should be on the road being enjoyed!

Sadly, sometimes, these wait can last for months, as you have found out but compared with some, so far, you have only been waiting a, comparative, short time.

Good Luck and I hope you get better satisfaction soon! 🤞

PS. I probably shouldn't say this but, before I retired and my workshop had spare time, we did some repair work for other Coach companies who found themselves in a similar position as you.
They found, that a vehicle, waiting a long time for parts, slowly got placed further and further to the back of the repairers yard and, nearly, forgotten about.

In your situation, I would have been making myself a nuisance and calling,/visiting their workshop every week.
It's surprising how quick things can get done to get rid of a nuisance! 🤔

Many years ago my Dad had an accident is a Nissan Bluebird. Needed a new Wing. Went to the local Nissan dealer from where he bought the car and they said they could not source the parts and he would have to wait approx 2 months as there were none available in the UK. Dad at the time worked for a company making commercial vehicles and had some contacts. Rang around a few and arranged for a wing to be delivered to the dealer the following day. When he went to the dealer to tell them the good news, they couldn't believe it. Basically it was all down to the computer says NO. There were in fact plenty in the UK. Doesn't help the cause here, but goes to show that dealers are not always the best to deal with, sometimes it pays to do things yourself.

Our Adria has a passenger air bag as standard from the Fiat factory.

It must be something more as it’s not a special fit. It is standard on many many fiat Ducato models.

You need to find out exactly what the problem is and what parts are they waiting on. There must be another way of sorting this. Any parts in the cab or under the dash are Fiat and not Adria. I've had a dealer tell me they had to wait on a part from Adria and I could buy the same part off the Internet. Probably because it was on warranty and they couldn't claim the cost of parts from Adria.
If and it's a big if it's a Fiat part made especially for Adria then ask them if they can fit the standard Fiat part.

As mentioned above, perhaps looking in Slovenia might work.

I had a rear spoiler come loose and crack on a brand new Adria. It was purchased in Germany and when I contacted the dealer they informed me that it would take several months for them to obtain the part. I was near Slovenia so I contacted a dealer in the same city where the Adria factory is, Novo Mesto. They said they could get the part in a day or two but were unwilling to perform the repair under warranty and wanted €800. I passed, duck taped it up and waited for the original dealer. When I inquired of the German dealer how this could be possible they explained that all parts have to go through the German distributor and that causes the delay.

Recently, I was in Italy and my MH was damaged in a parking lot. I again contacted the same Slovenian dealer and made arrangements for the repair. I arrived there two days later, they had the body panel, and the repair was completed in a couple of hours.

Might be worth a try. If you can source the part, shipping should be a simple matter.
