Hi all! I have 6 dogs who travel everywhere safely in our motorhome with us on our adventures in the UK.

Recently we've been looking at visiting family in northern ireland but the ferry states 4 dogs max.... Is that a hard and fast rule that's checked? Can't see how it matters if the dogs are safe and don't leave the motorhome?

Anyone done the crossing with more than 4 dogs, be good to hear how and your experience of the ferry

Thanks

I believe that there has been a lot of issues with the import between Ireland and the UK of puppies and breeding bitches in the past as part of illegal / unlicensed puppy farming. I think this is where the limit as a "private individual" stems from. I think that if you declare yourself a legitimate commercial breeder with all the correct paperwork and health checks, etc. in place you can import/ export more.

I know checks were carried out regularly at Fishguard and Pembroke Dock ports

So, as a private individual with more than 4 pet dogs (rather than an unlicensed commercial breeder masquerading as one), I'm not sure what you can do to get around it. Your local Animal Health department at your council may be able to advise.

Tam, you’ve got competition. That new van isn’t going to be big enough. You need space to hide the dogs :)

You use plural 'we' and 'our'

So if a couple 3 dogs are hers and 3 dogs are yours. Book separately.

When we travelled Holyhead to Dublin, we declared our dog on the booking form but no one checked and we had to leave her in the van anyway. Shut your blinds and no one will care.
