Hi folks, didn’t think I’d be back so quick, it’s our first motorhome and only had it 16 days we’re waiting to get the over due cambelt changed so can’t use it till it’s done as it’s too big a risk to take, I’ve paused the 30 day right to reject till I’m happy everything is fit for purpose and the dealer has agreed to pay for whatever. I’ve also got electric problems but a and n sorting those out,

while it’s sitting here doing nothing I’ve decided to fill and clean all the tanks out, problem is I can’t drain the fresh water tank as there is no wheel to turn ? Just a small badly fitting plug ! Is there any other way to drain it as it’s going in Tuesday for cambelt and the waters at 25% I’ve pumped it out that far via the waste but don’t want the pump to run dry so won’t drain anymore that way.
Should this have been picked up on the habitation check before purchase ? Haven’t seen the cert yet as it’s apparently still in the ‘post’ 🤣

Running the pump until it's gurgling for less than a minute isn't going to hurt it.

And when you do empty the tank, it's going to be run dry anyway next time you go to use it as it's bound to have some air in the pipes.

The plug is at the top of the tank and the drain mechanism is at the bottom, the two aren’t connected, pulling the poorly fitting plug out doesn’t work 😉

If you have a 2018 Hymer it should have an access trap in the floor where there is a wheel to turn to empty the tank,
What Hymer is it model number a photo would help🤔😊

Looks to me like it has been broken and someone has just stuck a sink plug on the top you need a new mechanism that fits into that hole and into the tank🤔

Here’s a thread that explains a bit more.

I’ve removed the blue inspection cap and inside I found an orange plug and chain, most of the chain had been sucked into the pump ? it does empty the tank though, if I fill up onsite and drive to a pitch the poorly fitted white plug won’t hold the full water sloshing around, also should the habitation report spotted it ?

Thanks Speve, it looks like others have had problems with the mechanism, a new one is £75 and requires a marmoset 🙉 to fit it

Yes it’s a fiddly old job but it can be done slowly😊

Progress eh ?

Mine just has a plug in the bottom of the tank, reach in and pull out 😀

Never needed a replacement, but hopefully 50p should cover it

Thanks Figaro, the proper mechanism doesn’t seem reliable, the orange plug works, it’s just the white loosely fitted plug on top that worries me, I think I’ll blank it off as It serves no purpose as I can’t get to the chain from it, Ill use the blue inspection cover to get in and empty it until I come up with a permanent solution

They do work as long as you don’t overfill the tank as it then springs the mechanism apart it’s a bit of a fiddle to reconnect but once you have done it it works mine has had this happen and I now only fill until gauge tells me 100% that then stops it separating😊
