Currently in Spain and our tap has sprung a leak. It looks like a O-ring/seal washer has broken down at the very base of the tap where it swivels, you maybe able to see where I mean on the pic. I’m unfamiliar with both the tap itself and fixing it. Has anyone experienced the same with this type of tap which must be fitted in a variety of vans.

  1. Is it an easy fix with an O-ring/washer if so is the strip down easy? Where do I buy the seal?
  2. Is it easier to replace the whole tap? If so again is it easily accessible?
  3. What make of tap is it Reich?
Any help/advice especially from a MLT 580 or 570 owner or anyone familiar with the repair would be appreciated.

Thank you

That’s a Reich Trend E tap I believe.

Yes you can strip it down and replaced individual parts but it is fiddly.

Wind out tap lever, take off tap top, undo the nut, remove the tap cartridge, then you need to unscrew the surround, and this is the difficult bit. There is a single ball bearing poked between the inside of the surround and in the inner part of the tap to stop it rotating. A real PITA. When/if you get this out the outer can be removed and the tap comes apart.

Or buy a new tap. Take two pipes off the bottom, undo single nut, fit new tap.

Succinct knowledge based response and all I need; thank you 🙏

It is entirely possible that the leak is from the base. However, we had a leak from the very same tap that was caused by a small split at the base of the spout - near to the screw locking the spout on. There are two o-rings on the stem that inserts into the spout.. I had to remove the spout (a bit tricky as the locking screw is very small) and there is very little clearance. I used sealant to reseal the spout onto the stem.

Thank you, I will take a look 👍🏼
