Wonderered if anyone has had this problem and if so what fix did you do?

It's an intermittent problem but seems to be happening more often recently. Can be driving along fine and then all of a sudden when you break the engine revs high and jerks from high-low revs. It does this for a few seconds normally and then the abs,esp visit workshop lights come on. Actually the van runs fine then with the warning lights on but then without correcting anything the lights go out and no warning messages show and all will be fine for a while and then it'll do the same thing agiam. As it revs up and I'm braking it sounds like the abs is kicking in, sort of shuddering, I'm guessing that's because it's picked up the high revs. I'm reluctant to take it to have the diagnostics put on as unless it happens there and then there's no warning messages. I did have an abs sensor cable fail last year but with that the warning lights where on all the time. Is one of the other sensors the most likely cause? It's the revving up that confuses me. Any thoughts/experiences much appreciated. We're in southern France at the moment. Shawn

You’ll need to plug it in.

Any faults will show up on the historic file on the on board computer.

We had similar problems over about 18 months. Very intermittent. Eventually the speedometer stopped working and after reading the threads on here the suggestion was the ABS pump. Ours was a long story but one of the things I found out was that the Bosch ABS pump around the 2011 to 2014 period was problematic and many failed. If it was me, if the vehicle is driving fine then carry on with your trip and don't worry too much. Even when the speedo stopped working it was fine to drive it and the sat nav gave us our speed. When you get home have it checked but be careful we went through a series of 'repairs' that never made any difference. If it is the ABS you are talking 2k for a new one plus labour.

Hi @Parrot Face thanks for replying. If I could I'd disconnect the sensors but from what I've read it'll most likely send it into limp mode. Shawn

I never touched the sensors, I just kept driving it . If it is the ABS pump then you will get loads of other lights coming on but in all my motorhome driving days the ABS only became active once on a snowy road in Northumberland , and that was for just 10 seconds.

My 2015 Hymer/Sprinter had a recall for a software update on the esp. Possibly not relevant in this case but perhaps worth checking.

We had the same on our 2009 Sprinter based Hymer. The workshop diagnosed a faulty ABS sensor which was duly replaced. After driving about 40 miles, we had the same message appear. We went to another workshop and after a discussion and investigation we found a Hymer specific ECU upgrade to remedy the ABS fault, no problems since.

I've had a recall letter for the same problem, when I took for a service they could not find the recall for Sprinter vans. Maybe its something Hymer do to the vehicle?

Have a look at the Ecutesting website. This firm from Derby specialise in repairing electronic units. There website has a list of common faults for all vehicles.

The recall/software update I had installed was Hymer specific but it had to be done by a Mercedes workshop (Mercedes ecu). When I first mentioned it to the Mercedes commercial agent for this area they were unaware of the recall but very quickly dug into their system and found the update it needed.

I have the same problem on my Bessacarr 2013. I have found out that Ecutesting near Derby refurbish them with a 24 hour turnaround and a lifetime warranty for between £150 to £200 so now I need to get the pump off. I was going to do it myself after watching it done on a Peugeot 206 on YouTube. It looks so simple but I'm buggered if I can find it under my bonnet!

Did you manage to find the problem ? I have had this all day on my way to Wales it’s a night mare ? Thanks Aaron

Hello Aaron. New rear speed sensors were recommended, tried non merc ones at around £40 each side but still didn't solve the problem, had to resort to getting Mercedes ones in the end, each side cost of around £200. That was in November last year and touching lots of wood it's been fine since the day I put them on. I tried all sorts based on information I found online, new brake peddle switch, check rear high level reversing lights, remove the sensor from the locating slot on the rear hub and very gently with a tiny piece of cloth and small screw driver try to wipe any oil residue from the hole. All worth trying before spending loads on the sensors.

Hope you get it sorted as it is a real pain when it's happening, espelhem approaching junctions/traffic lights.
