Coming back from a wee weekend break away, gets to a bend goes to change gear and clutch pedal goes to the floor.... Not complete;y but about an inch or two - just enough to change gears... I can lift the pedal to its normal position with my foot and then it does it again.... Go a 3-4 miles without needing to change gear and its perfectly fine then it will do the same again for a mile or two then all is hunky dorey again and we go 50+ miles home with out a problem....

Have searched this and people say about it could be the slave or master cylinder on its way out... Has anyone had this problem but could still change gear allbeit 2 inches from the floor for a wee while then goes back to normal...

Have looked through the service history and it's had a clutch/break fluid change in the last couple of years...

Again many thanks for any help in advance to our troublesome questions...

The heater had been on - my OH like's to play with it quite a bit turning it up, then down making it blow faster then slower

I would expect it to be the slave cylinder, which unfortunately is inside the gearbox bell housing. So gearbox out, which is a long job.

Hope you’ve solved your problem. Didn’t see this as we were in a very similar bind. From my experience, you’ll get away with it for a while, but to avoid a roadside breakdown and tow to a garage, I’d get it looked at as soon as you can. You’re probably looking at £1200 if it’s the full clutch. Are you near 30,000 miles? If so, it could be the full monty 😟

Not as of yet we havent... try doubling the mileage - its just turned 70k ... Will let my nephew have a look when I see him next as he used to be a mechanic..

We had the same problem on our 2017 Focus clutch. After trying to frighten us with massive predictions of the price it turned out to me the master cylinder.

My 2007 started playing up on a snowy pass over the Alps. I was pushing it fairly hard. Foot heaters on full blast. Fluid had been changed recently, but not many times in its history. Got a breakdown truck before I got stuck somewhere inconvenient. When the garage looked at it, it was fine. I drove on it for another 3 months of our trip without issues (although generally more gently). Had the fluid changed again when I got home. Didn't have another issue. Sold it a couple of years later.

Best theory I've heard is not much of the fluid in the clutch system gets flushed when they exchange the via the brakes. So I had old and moisture filled stuff in my clutch circuit. Getting it hot and going to altitude made the moisture bubble out. But it went back to normal after sitting for a bit. Apparently there is a way to bleed the clutch circuit, but it's not easy.

The fluid was apparently changed on mine, but when I broke down last year, it was found the fluid in the clutch part of the circuit had not been replaced and was like treacle. It had to be flushed a few times and totally replaced when they replaced the slave cylinder. I also had the clutch done, as it was out anyway, so silly not to. That is on a 2012 with low mileage
