Just looking
Hi,

I've seen a 2001 Weinsberg Komet I really like. My other half is concerned it might be hard to find parts for it in the UK. Does anyone have any experience with this model? Is it well built and reliable? Any info or advice would be most appreciated.

Thanks!

Nearly all of the stuff that could break down will be provided by other (mainly international) companies like Fiat, Dometic, Truma, Thetford etc. That does not mean that their spares will be difficult to find, but that it because of the age of the vehicle, not because it's a Weinsberg. And older German vans have generally a better build quality than those built elsewhere of the same age.

The two main things you need to look at on all motorhomes of that age is water penetration into the body and rust on the chassis.

Thanks for the info, that's pretty much what I thought. His other concern was left hand drive and engine under cab so I've still got a bit of persuading to do!

Lots on here are quite happy to use LH drive.

The engine is not directly under the floor. AFAIK it sits directly in front of the bulkhead in all Ducato versions. It is based on a van and will not be as quiet as a car.

Yes Fiat Ducato
Parts still seem in plentiful supply. 5th gear may be the later bolt in adaptor. Add 0.5 litre of oil extra and try and avoid 5th gear in first 15 minutes driving to I allow 5th to be splashed with oil.

Coastalmotorhomes offer good advice and older van parts.
