Not our Palace but this what 2000 watts of solar looks like, you need to start with a decent sized van though as this is most likely just over 9 metres.

If he gets rid of the second heki and the sat dish he would get loads more up ;)

EDIT
Actually reading a bit further into it 2000 was the target but he only managed 1880 watts.

He should be able to power his house with that lot, provided he's got one. ;) :giggle:

I would be plugging that into our electric when back home and increase our solar money we gain !
Mate of mine has a small house in the hills in spain, he got fed up of people stealing his panels when away so he added all his to his van, plugged in when there and had solar when he was away :)

Few kg‘s worth there Martin 😲

Must have lots of solar chargers, I can see at least 4 different panels.

3 separate solar controllers on mine and 2 separate battery banks one runs the original 12v equipment and the other all the 240v through the inverter charger.

6 x 100w panels , 1 x 350w panel and 1x 150w . 7 x 100ah batteries. I bank of 300ah and 1 bank of 400ah .

That is a hell of a lot

We are adding 1.2Kw to our Vario roof, which is just over twice what we currently have. As we are already solar sufficient for 9-10 months of the year (we use around 2Kw per 24 hours), I'm hoping that the extra will run a small Eurom 2401 AC unit when it's hot and hopefully make us close to solar sufficient all year (still not decided on tilting yet).

With the prices of energy rising so dramatically, the solar setup (excluding the battery) will pay for itself in around 1.5 years. Crazy times.

I'm constantly flabbergasted at the many posts (boasts?) about peoples' electricity needs and solar set-ups, inverters, B2B's, Lithiums etc.
For the life of me I cannot understand why on earth people *need* so much electricity, even when off grid?
If they must have all those home comforts they might as well stay at home and watch the telly, use their hair dryers, microwaves, slow cookers, toasters, trouser presses and goodness knows what else they can't live without.
🤷‍♂️

Boasts, ? ...flabbergasted ?

Id say good luck to them.
the same as Id say good luck to those who can manage without.

For myself I need it for
A: my Wifes condition
B: Work
C: microwave and hairdryer ;)
D: cos I can

Some people "just love solar" and enjoy making and using power and being completely self sufficient, the guy in question that I posted a photo of his roof runs air conditioning and water heating all from solar and lithium as well as his other "toys"

Some people like tinkering with old motorbikes, some people like tinkering with motorhomes and sharing their experience with other like minded individuals, I don't see that as boasting though.

But it is my home (y)

I have enough solar and storage to run my van with the home comforts I want. The next van has more roof space so more solar is a no brainer (1.2Kw of solar panels cost £615) and then I can have AC.

I can't understand why so many vans need to be plugged in to function properly. Seems nuts to me, but we are all different.

Understanding your own needs and equipment capabilities is crux to the point in hand . As is your understanding of the situation/ System. We almost exclusively are off grid. A while back during an aborted attempt to watch the only 2 hours of telly that swmbo wanted to watch ( in a fortnight away) she said sort it. Now here's a list of likes and needs ( no hair products listed). NOW my 220W solar (votronic mppt) should be enough?
Not when I got dead batteries. So add a 330W domestic panel (£130) and another controller, 550w should be enough with addition of a Li battery was initial going gel but with pricing at the time 100Ah of Ultramax does the job. Now we have System that allowed me hours of tinker time , reading etc (even playing with an arduino to talk to the bmv712 so even more tinker time) and with a cheap MSW Iinverter she can use a washing machine, slo cooker and charge the hoover to her hearts content and even watch 2 hrs of telly or read a book in the dark. Nothing too fancy.
Now how much is a pair of mk1 concentric carbs for me Commando going to cost?
Before Tilting mod 550w on 6m van.

I have a Trade account with Wassell and have bought in their Concentric carbs for biker chums which they've been very happy with.
E.g. Their 22mm choke Concentrics (Left and/or right hand) would be about £75 each at mates' rates + a couple of quid P&P. Their stock availability can be a bit 'hit 'n miss.

You could buy Mikunis and have non-wearing, working, carbs 😁.

I won't have anything but the good looking Amal Monoblocs on my classic Brit bikes.
(The Concentrics always look to me as if they should be on a lawn mower or a BSA Bantam. :giggler: )

Thanks for the info, not as frightening as I first thought. A lot more to do and spend before I get there. Also need to get shed and enthusiasm sorted. Her jobs always seem to come first. Mind you just got organising the sheds in my mind at least . Push bikes, twt, freezer, trailer tent kitchen out of dark green, fastback out out of brown to dark green, rearrange light green as work zone , cheap bikes in leanto my mountain bike in decent accommodation. Lots of stuff for tip. Sorted will be ready in 2 years?

They do look a bit like that 🙂. I can understand why Amals match the looks of a British classic but Mikunis for no-wear characteristics and a decent choke. They make Amals look like a first design attempt.
