We have just returned from a 2 night stay in Chester. Fascinating city with Roman History. The Roodee Car park near to the city centre and Racecourse is a 24 hrs motorhome freindly car park with overnight sleeping allowed. Motorhomes allowed to take up 2 spaces if oversized. Cost £11 per 24hrs charging period 7am to 6.59am next day. Charge is automated, go to entry barrier, prints out ticket with your registration number on. ( use taller of two barrier machines) Just before leaving, put that ticket in machines, pay outstanding amount, card or cash. Drive to exit barrier recognises your registration number and if you have paid barrier will automatically rise. A really great idea wish more local authorities would do the same as you spend in local shops and businesses. Over the 2 days we spent over £100 dining out, visiting attractions etc. Anyone know of similar schemes near towns and Cities?

You can stay at the leisure centre in Stratford for up to 72hrs.
Dedicated motorhome bays and overnight allowed.
No facilities but loos and cafe in the centre itself.
Very well placed for all the attractions (RSC etc.)

Not cheap, £22/night.

Was always told to use the lower machine as we fit in 1 space.
was talking to the warden 3 weeks ago, she was having fun going round ticketting the "bottom machine" people in mhs.
the ticket has a marker on it defining which machine.

Used loads of times. The warden said to use the lower machine

I did get ticket from lower machine. Total cost was £24 from Sunday afternoon till 1.30pm on Tuesday. It's only when I read official chester website for chester that if in campervan or motorhome sleeping overnight you should pay the higher amount which is ticket from taller machine. We are only 6m and would have fitted in single parking space. Bit ambiguous really as to whether I was in wrong getting ticket from lower machine.
