The cam belt on my 2004 Hymer Fiat Ducato x244 is for renewal this year and some advice would be helpful on what I should be asking any garage I might be considering to do the work. Some things that come to mind are:

1. Is there a particular manufacturer of the cam belt kit that preferred or to avoid
2. I'm guessing there are various pulleys to change as well - would these be done automatically or do I have to request
3. Is it worth changing the water pump and auxilliary belts at the same time

And all the others I haven't thought of! Thanks.

My understanding is the tensioner should be replaced along with the two auxiliary belts.
The water pump isn't driven by them so there's no need to replace it unless it's leaking.
Ask for a quality belt, Gates I believe is a top brand.
Mines due again this year after five years.

I always do my own and it’s due it’s 4th change on the 2.8JTD.

I only do the water pump if it shows signs of leakage, but ok so far.

Definitely go with the Gates kit, it comes with all the bits you need, including the tensioner.

I also change the aux belt at the same time.

Mines only done 48k miles, but it’s worth keeping up the maintenance, regardless of mileage.

Not mine, but from a Skoda Yeti, which believe it or not was still running, but came in for a belt replacement just in time.

as far as doing a belt change they are rather basic on those not to involved .go to a good independent and get them to fit the gates kit.half a day tops to fit the kit on that
