Okay you lot ... get on your skin-tight Lycra and line up on the starting blocks. :giggle:

I'm going to get my Mum a 1p mobile sim as the Three PAYG one she's got now is getting used quite quickly (10p a minute/text), she's only been on PAYG for a short while and has nearly used £5 and that's with her not using it much! By getting her a 1p mobile sim obviously she'll get 10 times the value out of it and I won't have to worry about topping it up all the time (just 3 times a year or I might go for the yearly option).

As I understand it if I am referred by someone they and Mum will get £5 credit (after 30 days) so I'm asking anyone who is willing to refer me to put their names below then on a I will put the names into a hat and draw one out who can 'benefit' from this.

At this point in time I just need your MHF name and will contact the 'winner' once I've made the draw ...

Closing date for 'opting in' is Friday 25th February at midnight.

Ready ... steady ... GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

Just one problem Minxy - Friday is 25th not 26!
Ah ha ... so someone was paying attention then! :giggle:

Yeah I changed my mind half-way through posting and then got jumped on by Minky and forgot to amend the date! That's my excuse anyway! :giggle::giggle::giggle:

Minxy. We too are on 1p mobile Mel.

One thing you need to be aware of, (if not already), is that there is a minimum monthly spend of £2.50, and a compulsory top up every 120 days.
If like Rita, the minimum monthly spend is not met, the provider will deduct the difference from your Mum's account, to make up the amount.

This comes about for Rita with WiFi calling,ie, using our home internet, so now she turns of her WiFi during the day, to try and use up her accumulated credit and meet the £2.50 minimum, but turns it back on at night for updates. I've had to knock off the auto top up for her number too.

Cheers,

Jock. :)

I’m also with 1p mobile and have been for 3 or 4 years. Don’t forget that now (came in a few months ago), if you don’t use £2.50 of your credit in a month then they deduct the balance up to the £2.50. Still a cheap way of having a mobile although not as good as the old system whereby my credit would build up to enable me to use data when away. With the pandemic, and not going abroad my credit had built up to about £35! Gradually my credit is coming down so once I get down to £10 then I will have to start paying again. Happy with that.

I've just researched what you've mentioned but from what I can tell that's for those who have been with them for a while:

These changes apply to all customers who joined 1pMobile before 1 January 2021.

Current T&Cs for new customers don't have this requirement:

A quick question for those with 1p, when you top-up manually do you get a code to your phone or can you do it without by logging into your account on a laptop? This is one thing that's a bit of a concern as when Mum gets codes on her phone which I need to log into her Three account it makes her fretful so I'd rather this didn't happen.

You can topup online by logging into your 1p mobile account. That can be done via a smart phone, tablet or computer.

... but do you have to have a security code sent to your phone to log into your account?

I've never had to use a code but I have auto top-up set up so nothing to do. I do get charged a few bob now the new min monthly spend has come in but still pretty cheap as an occasional phone user.

Either that Mel, or you can set up an auto top up when the credit gets down to the limit you set. Mine is £3.00.

Good news not being subject to the minimum spend of £2.50. (y)

Cheers,

Jock. :)

The contract I had Mum on for a year cost £2 pcm (£8 before cashback) for unlimited calls/texts/8gb data pcm, but it was a pain having to get the code off Mum to be able to log into her Three account to download the bill which I needed to submit to Fonehouse periodically to get the cashback (not an issue when I had to do it for my own phone contract). At £2.50 a month with sufficient credit to give her more than enough calls it's not much more so I'm thinking of doing a year one for £30 ... but that'll be a waste of money if I end up killing her before the year's out!

When I login I use my 1p phone # and password. Can't remember how I originally set my account but it wasn't difficult.

The compulsory top up of £10 every 120 days applies so in effect a minimum spend of £2.50 a month. Odd having tougher terms for existing customers.

Yup, just deciding which is the best way to go with Mum ... I could just leave her on her Three sim and let her spend, spend, spend but it goes against my nature when I know there's a cheaper way to get her a better benefit! :giggle:

Yes, I assume lots of people haven't been using their sims much and built up loads of credit, the point is that the company makes money from the use of the credit when people make calls etc so when they don't they don't get any 'real' income.

I have access to my Wife's and my own 1 P Mobile account and neither has auto update. Either of us can top up by logging in without an additional code. I have used there data boosts before crossing into the E.U. and it worked brilliantly. (Fair usage limit of 14GB per 30 days) I usually buy the 10 GB data boost and then the 2 GB data boost if I need to top up my data within the 30 day period. So far I have had to do this only once as there is plenty of free WiFi in the E.U. Receiving and sending calls to thee family was faultless.

I've just done the 'draw' by puting names on individual pieces of paper, scrunching them up and putting them in a black bag then picking one out .. the winner is
