Hoping to buy a '96 Hymer b594 with 101000 miles. Cambelt done 13000 miles. New tyres / batteries. Good MOT records and valid until July 2025. Recent oil / foilter change + safari tent. Price £9000

What things should I check / things that go wrong with this model?

Spare UK parts source?

Many thanks

Hi, what’s the base vehicle?

Travelworld can get Hymer parts, that’s quite an age though so you might have to source alternatives.

There are lots of resources to check out when buying that might help in the forum. You may have to be a member though.

Lots of people on here love the old Hymers, post a picture and welcome. :-)

The wording in bold above would worry me, ie, was the cambelt alone changed, or as a full kit with replacement pulleys and bearings, and possibly the water pump too, etc, and was it changed either at the 13,000 miles stage, or 13,000 miles ago?
If the former, it is well overdue. :Eeek: If the latter, how long ago, as age can compromise the cambelt, not just wear and tear or contamination 🤷‍♂️

Good luck with it, however always remember, ie, buyer beware. (y)

Cheers,

Jock. :)

Don’t let age concern you overly. Check all systems function, heating, fridge water pump etc. damp is important not to find.
Most mechanical parts are available.
Do give it a good test ride, up hills! It will be slow & noisey but you get used to this. If you can live with it then no problem.
We have a 2001 2.8 idtd fiat & it took some getting used to driving. Slow & steady is the way. As long as I keep it above 2200 revs it will go up most long motorway hills in 5th. On slower steeper smaller twisty roads I’m often in 3rd or 2nd. Same revs just slower & it goes up fine. Just don’t rush or look at the traffic behind!
