Would it be 90 or 180 days later.
Thanks.

If you entered Europe on Jan 1st and stayed 90 days you would leave end of March (approximately). Therefore you could enter again on the 1st of July ( again approximately as I can't be bothered to look up how many days in each month😔)

Enter Schengen on 1st January (31 days), all February (28 days), all March to 31st March 2022 = 90 days, so you need to be out of Schengen for 90 days, so 30 days April, 31 days May, so you need another 29 days in June, so able to enter Schengen again from 30th June onwards

If you're going to calculate it down to the last day others have said that any part of a day at either end when travelling counts as a fulll day

Yep the first day of entry counts as a day even if you arrive at 5mins to midnight. Exit is the same.

I am a thick as shhh when it comes to this but this link explains it slightly

There is a wee quirk in the Schengen Calculator [and this is taken from the EU Border Guard System]. If you do a 90 day stay straight off, you will have to stay out of the zone for 90 days; however, if you stay for say 46 days, [1st Oct to 15 Nov 21] and then plan to return to the Schengen Zone for a stay until 28th March 2022, a further 90 day stay will be approved, with the start of the 90 day period being 29th Dec 21 and the start of the 180 day period being 30 Sep 21; i.e. the early days of the September stay 'expire' 1 day at a time to cover the 'future stay' to 28th March 22. So, even with a 46 day previous stay as above, the System will permit a further 90 day stay, in effect giving 136 days during a 6 month period!

Try it and see! Select 'Planning' Option, enter 28th March 22 as the Control Date [Exit Date] and key in the previous stay as 1st Oct to 15 Nov 21, and then select 'Calculate'

That bit about 136 days in 180 cannot be correct at all as it is completely against the rules. If the calculator system you are referring to suggests you can do that then something is wrong with it.

I don't think it is, it seems to be the way that the 'looking backwards' in the 180 days criterion works, as days fall off from the earlier stay and become available for the later part of the second stay. I've just adjusted the mythical planned stay end date to 28th Feb 22 and it still approves a further 90 days stay; only if I change the end date to 28th Jan 21 does the Calculator lower the Approval to 44 days

Where you are going wrong is that the control date is the entry date, not the exit date.

I use this app John on my phone might help.

Check out "SchengenCalc 2"
<Broken link removed>
Having just downloaded thie aforementioned app, it seems unwilling to allow me to enter my past travel into the Schenden zone. It's calendar begins THIS month and I cannot get it to show earlier dates. So, I'm disappointed to report its useless for me. :cautious:

The following app does allow you to enter your historic trips.
