My neighbour recently moved out and give me a 15kg butane blue calor, I know it’s a different regulator but can I use it in the van in place of propane?

Please explain what is on the exit point on the bottle.
Since about 2000 and not a lot, leisure vehicles were fitted with an on board Reg. that would accept both Propane and Butane.
The only problem with Butane is that the liquid in the Butane bottle will not 'gas off' from it's liquid state as the temp. drops towards zero. Don't expect it to perform from about 5 degs C

Hi I’ve got an autotrail with 2x calor 6kg and a regulator on the bottle top 2002 van

Ah! Is it a 'click on' Reg. and does the 15kgs bottle have the same exit type?

I seem to remember that at the turn of the century, there were two sizes of exit point. I recall one was 22mm but the other was either 1mm bigger or smaller.
Have a go at fitting your extant Reg.

You can normally use butane with the same regulator. You will need a different pigtail though (the pipe from the regulator to the gas bottle). It's got slightly more energy than propane, so you get more burn per kg. But as mentioned, it'll falter at lower temperatures.

I think the OP's system predates the bulkhead Reg. system. He's got a 2002 van.

The gas itself can be used in each case, it will have no difference when used either way. I use both on my bbq and was told by a gas fitter it was OK.and have been doing so for 30+ years.

Gas is interchangeable, you will require either the correct regulator on the bottle or the correct pigtail to link bottle to the on board regulator.

As said with the correct regulator you can use but only use able in September too cold in October for butane and often when it's warmer it can't supply the flow rate for a Trums Combi.

You used to be able to swap butane to propane. You could try.

There are clip on adaptors that can be used with a butane/ gaslow pigtail and a modern regulator. Last year i used up spare 15kg bottĺes in summer and no obvious problems with my truma just heating water.
