I want it to keep things at around 5c in the present UK temps of around 20c.Do you want a cool box which will be cheap but fairly ineffective
Or a 12v compressor fridge box which are very good but not cheap?
I have one of these

Currently on Amazon for £179 [I paid more]
It's very effective but quite power hungry if using it as a freezer, there's probably better energy efficient & better insulated models about [but at what price?]
I store my alcohol in a box underneath the van. Hidden from view obviously. The coolest possible place without a fridge i think.I have 200 Watts of solar and 200 amps of lead acid batteries.
I was thinking of running it during the day and turning it off at night.
It's only to keep some beer and lemonade cool and a bit of fresh food stuff, spread, cold meat etc.
I have 120w solar and 200Ahr batteries - and that just about keeps up when I want to keep Kerry's food frozen. I've never tried using it at fridge temperatures. I also have a portable 100w solar as a back up.I want it to keep things at around 5c in the present UK temps of around 20c.
I don't mind paying a few hundred pounds as at the moment we are stuck with a fridge that wont work on gas on a site with no spare EHU and no prospect to even have the fridge looked at for at least 3 weeks.
As long as its sunny my 200 Watts of solar will more than cope during the day as I think they use around 4a/h ?I have 120w solar and 200Ahr batteries - and that just about keeps up when I want to keep Kerry's food frozen. I wouldn't be comfortable turning mine off at night, especially warm ones, as the insulation doesn't appear to be great and it doesn't keep the temperature that well.
Doing that you would be OK with a cheap one but as you are prepared to spend a bit more I would get a compressor one.I have 200 Watts of solar and 200 amps of lead acid batteries.

Which Halford one ?If you want a cheap one, the Halfords cool boxes work well - 12V . 40W. Mains adaptor is available. Used to have one when I was tenting and if not careful stuff on top of the box was capable of turning to ice. You will hear the fans running
So this oneJust the basic 24L sized one at £65 now (a lot more than I recall paying years ago). As above it is always on, but should keep stuff cool if you turn off overnight to avoid noise. If all you need is the stopgap solution whilst you fix the fridge no need to pay for an expensive compressor type coolbox.
Thank youYep that will do
