1-9 a copy!

Wasn't it 1-4 for a copy. ? Maybe regional?
It was 1 4 for a copy if you were homebase, and 1 9 fir a copy if mobile, that kept the airway clear for road reports etc.

Eric, (the edgehog)

Lol..
Originally "truckhaven" later went to BP. Now all gone ? just like my hair  happy days.
Was'nt it Eddie Clayton who opened it originally Steve, ?

You are right, other guy was Sheldon something like hot shot transport, I need a lie down mate, ?

once you've got the HAM gear I believe the cost is zero - no monthly contract to pay but don't know if you have to have a specific annually charged licence fee?
Passed my foundation license exam last year and there is no charge for the license.
Since the Corona virus lockdown quite a few people have dusted off their old amateur radio equipment and returned to the airwaves.
The 2 meter and 70cm bands have been quite busy recently.

Its surprising the distances you can get now on 2 meters 70 cms Steve, especially if you can get into the repeaters.

Channel 19 was used on the American AM CBs which we used (illegally) in the UK before our superior narrow FM CBs were legalised and sold. On our FM rigs we used Channel 14 (some truckers still used 19 though iirc)

Look up the 'Zello' app for smartphones, it uses your data allowance and turns your phone into a walkie talkie with unlimited range. It's very good ?

Your right actually. it was 10-4 (y)
I thought 10-4 was for goodbye . Breaker 1-9 seem right to me for starting a call . Willing to be proven wrong .

We used to have them In the day and went out at night to meet other CB-ers and compare Rigs and Twigs. We were referred to as the 3 Watt Breakers ....what’s your rig , what’s your twig , what’s your handle.

Breaker, breaker on the side.....
lol varied response. The beauty of the CB (Ham is even better) is the random chat.

10-4 is an affirmative signal: it means “OK.” 10-7 "signing off".
I still see uses.
CB always connected and listening.
Random chat with ppl.
Areas I wild camp in are by the main road but no phone signal.
Multiple chats
Back up to the phone.
As I said I like to have a day in a camp then a few wild camping, no signal. Used to be huge when it was illegal. Once legal it just became lame.
Mind you...just put one on and maybe its age, but the hiss annoyed me. But I can lose that.

It must be still quite popular, recently clearing out an old relatives house he had a 12v receiver thingy and an aerial. I flogged them both for £15 and could’ve sold it 10 times over.
