Tried today to book my 72 plate Ducato (4500 miles) in for it's first service at Tunbridge Wells Fiat Professional and was told it's a major service and is going to cost £890.

Then I said it was a van conversion, they replied does it have water tanks underneath? I said Yes, they then said that it would be a problem for them to work on as they are only really kitted out for smaller vans like the Doblo etc

Anyone tried any of the other stealerships near the kent/sussex border and is a major service really necessary? What sort of price has everyone paid at the Fiat Professional. Thought an oil and oil filter change would do but need to preserve the 5 year extended warranty

Outrageous!

As we have the 5 year extended Fiat warranty I’ve bitten the bullet and booked the 2 year service with our supplying dealer Chelston, who are also Fiat Professional accredited. Bit pricey IMHO at £525 inc vat, but it is what it is, plus they assure me that any software updates will be applied and apparently when it’s plugged in the Fiat mothership has everything completed registered against the VIN.

Go onto the Fiat Professional website and do a search for those that specialise in motorhomes in the drop down menu and you’ll locate those on your area.

Yes have mine booked in 1st service 3rd Dec at Chelston as only a few miles away. They have quoted me £450 (I assume inc Vat) on a Rapido PVC conversion and will check on the Fiat recall. We'll see.

The first service is at 2 years and is a full service not an interim one. My extended warranty conditions include:

Whilst it doesn’t say it has to be carried out by a Fiat Professional I will not be going elsewhere and risking arguments about whether everything has been done properly with approved components.

I wanted an oil change after the vehicle was reasonably well run in at about 5000 miles, and was not keen on no oil change for two years. It turned out that just an oil change would have cost nearly as much as a first service, so I had the first service done at one year rather than two, so not due again now until the end of year three. It cost £420 +VAT.

Find an alternative dealer. Yes it is vital to get the first service done at fiat pro in order to get any vital ecu updates. Too many people are/have falling foul of this with twin egr syndrome.

For £890 I reckon the OP could have hopped on a ferry, driven to Poland, had the service done at my local commercial garage and had a holiday on the way, including parking in our yard with full MH services.

Fortunately he has been given alternatives.

1st service is basically a oil change and visual inspection they give you a A4 tick sheet when you go to pay bill to make it look like they been at it all day .some work shops dont evan drain the oil from the engine sump plug they remove dip stick then put a thin pipe in place of dip stick then oil gets pumped out .i dont like this methood.oh and a lot of dealers dont change oil filter on 1st service.so if they dont have to put any new parts on ,just suck the oil out of it and tick a few boxes on a sheet its done in about a hr

They will have difficulty pumping out through the dipstick hole because the Series 8 & 9 don’t have one and any earlier models will be well beyond their first service. The service schedule includes replacing oil, oil filter, air filter, fuel filter, passenger compartment filter and brake fluid plus extensive checks that probably involve computer equipment that only a Fiat Professional is likely to have access to. We have little choice about where we go for servicing if we want the software updates.

When buying a new motorhome we are likely spending in the region of £100,000 and we also need to budget for maintaining complex computer controlled engineering.

What's this all about? Fiat Ducato first service (2 years or 30,000km) is just an oil change, brake fluid change, (unesscesary in my opinion) pollen filter plus checks. My local garage did mine for £180. Warranty is out at that point (unless you have paid to extend it) so it doesn't really matter who does it anyway.

Just check your fiat handbook/service book for details.

Is it just me that thinks every Fiat Professional dealer should charge the same price for a first service - and all services after that? Why should they vary so much?

I take mine to burgess fiat at Sittingbourne, I can big them up enough Chris the mechanic is very honest and only replace parts which actually need replacing, did my camber a couple of yrs ago for approximately £600 v/s Haynes wanting over 1k

Costs of rent, rates, labour, insurance etc.

Do your own oil and filter change, then ask them to do the rest - which isnt much…

Did my own oil, cost me £90 for Fiat spec and provided oil and filter insert.

Plus you know it was really done….

theres a plug sort of about where the dip stick would have been or there abouts it gets pumped out threw there .and if a new motor needs updates while still under warranty fiat dose them for free as long as your motor is serviced from fiat or reputable garage of your choice and the service book stamped
