I'm a newbie
including oil filter on Fiat Ducato. Does that seem reasonable?

About half that or just over would be right.
That’s what my local specialist garage using Fiat approved oil and filter charge. Ducato 130 hp engine.

Oil + Filter parts on mine was around the £100 from memory.

Add some labour and waste disposal costs and some profit and I'd be looking to pay around £200 or maybe a little bit more.

£283 sounds steep to me but I'm basing my pricing on an independent. I'm not familiar with dealership prices.

Too much! This is what buying the stuff from Opie oils would cost me.

Bosch Filter £11
8l fiat S1 Oil £70
Sump plug £3
Total £75 with free delivery and 15% off

An hours labour 🤷🏼‍♂️

Are they doing any other service checks as well?

This is Vospers, Fiat Professional main dealer in Plymouth.
Vehicle is still in warranty, so reluctant to go outside Fiat approved network.
First service is still far off, but advice is to have an oil change & new filter as vehicle now about 18 months old and less than 10k miles.
Options?

Have you taken the discount off twice?

Marquis used to use someone nearer them in Ivybridge. The Fiat garage in Plympton used to be reasonable though.

I don’t think anyone minds paying a fair price for a good job.

This is eighty quids worth of bits and TWO HUNDRED labour!

In my book it would be hard to take an hour on my driveway in the pouring rain to get it done.

So is it fair and reasonable?
What is the plus that justifies two hundred pounds?
And it’s probably the apprentice who does it anyway!

Sorry, call me tight but it’s out of order.

Tony

You can get your oil for £23 per service if you buy in a 20L can.
Smith & Allan are partners with Shell. 👌😎

Probably not a Fiat dealer in Ivybridge??

I thought the 'you must use a main dealer / the place you bought it from to not void your warranty' was a thing of the past as long as you can prove it was serviced to manufacturers standards (service receipt from 3rd party garage).

Sounds about right……but

I did my own for about £80 for oil and £20 for the filter.

Had a full service, pre-mot (asked for this as I don't want any advisories), and mot last week for £560. Garage I've used for several years, always has a couple of motorhomes in for service and work

The first service is due at 2 years so at 18 months you are not that far off.

Ask them how much they charge for vehicles out of warranty as many main stealers have reduced rates for older vehicles to attract the business.
I have haggled before with some success but have made clear that if they want any future work then the pricing has to be reasonable. At 18 months old you are already at least half way through your warranty period (possibly 3/4) so are much less likely to be needing it now everything is proven to work as expected.
£175 including vat is realistically more than enough for what the apprentice would be capable of doing.

£324 Inc VAT for oil and filter 2.5 years ago at North East Truck and Van, York. (FIAT paid for it ultimately as compensation for abysmal service -12 weeks until gearbox repair was finished.)
