I am wondering what the implications are when off road and the van insurance. The couple that turned their Hymer on its side in the Gorafe desert comes to mind.

I think I know the answer. The Hymer couple were with LV and turned out it wasn't insured. I don't think, like most people, they had even given it a thought.
Perhaps I should have phrased it differently. What additional, if any, does one take when travelling off road.

Done a bit of googling and looks like there is specialist 4x4 insurance and off-road insurance.

TLDR; ask your insurance broker or insurer and be clearer about what’s covered.

We've enquired with Comfort and Caravan Guard. Caravan Guard wanted to know my inside leg measurement.
We bought sheets from Jonic - they have the measurements. 28 days lead time though

Just gave them the Hymer make and model and picked the materiel and colour.
They seem to have all the patterns and sheets arrived fairly promptly
Errr, yes as MHF threads have an annoying habit of doing. Back on topic, I called NFU today but they couldn’t give me an immediate answer until the underwriter makes his judgment.
Caravan Guard didn't. They even called back the next day, asked more questions even about previous vans we have owned, value, size etc. Still didn't give a quote then called back with one following day. I guess its because of the high value.
Yeah, I’m hoping NFU will accept the higher value - especially as they have our car and house business

Did you specifically ask for off road cover in addition to normal?
Yes although I used some of the things they said in that podcast: “owners permission”, “right of way”
NFU just called back. They will cover for 4x4. The increased value also needs referring to the underwrites though. They're doing that now.
