I looked at Overland Bound - they have an app that's a lot like P4N but also has routes etc but it doesn't have much coverage in Europe :-(
They also have a forum that could be considered a MHF competitor (mainly) for Americans who camp out.

Finding bodies of water anywhere can often create a secluded ‘off road’ park up opportunity. There are often service tracks, secluded car parks and lanes with barn and farm building access. Much of it has undefined boundaries and affords off grid parking opportunities in our experience. France is amazing for this kind of thing. Canal and rivers are also great. Fishermen often create parking pull ins which most Motorhomers would dream of using, 4WD ensures gay abandon in selecting these!

Google maps is my research weapon of choice for finding water. Then it’s Google earth to investigate viability!
I can’t seem to edit my stuff either, must be a social groups thing! Good tip about the water - there are some good legal camping spots near reservoirs in the UK too.
