Morning folks
I think I've clinched a deal for a new 2025 Hymer ML-T 570 4x4 but as I'm still in Morocco until April nothing is set in stone just yet but signs look good, but what I want to throw out there is the dealer also has the Hymer ML-T 580 4x4 for not too much more money and I'm wondering what the big if any differences are between the two obviously the slightly longer length but the reasons I chose the 570 was the payload is over 700kg which I think is superb
So if there's any Hymer ML-T owners out there I'd love to hear your thoughts & experiences thank you
And thank you to Jane & Rog for their invite hope this group grows 🙂 Paul

Wow, congratulations! I bet you’re looking forward to getting off the beaten track. I’m interested in this too - I don’t think we knew of any differences though Rog might correct me.

Abgs might know.

If the 570 is the crossover edition (I have a feeling all the 2025s are) there are a few differences but I think they’re all either cosmetic or things you can do yourself easily.

From memory…
Fancy green ‘x’ on the outside and different cab colour?
Extra lithium battery
Extra cassette and storage for it in outside locker
Off road toolkit 🤷‍♂️

When we looked at it, you could spect a 580 up to 570 and the cost was slightly higher.

Off road it’ll have slightly worse exit angle because of the huge arse. One bigger difference might be that (again from memory) I’m think the crossover comes with underbody protection though - again, if you want it available form merc after market.

Hi again
Yes it's definitely the Crossover and it has rally lights and engine protection, the interior is called bamboo and it has black leather upholstery I also think it has solar panels and lithium batteries I'll have to speak to the dealer when I get back into Spain, you know what it's like out here it's all data emails and WhatsApp only but I've stuck a deposit down and the understanding is it's for either of the two models although I'm leaning slightly towards the 570, don't know why it just looks 'chunkier' lol if that's the correct term, anyway I'll keep you posted as I go and hopefully other owners/members might drop in with their knowledge
Chat soon 🙂

MLT 570 vs 580

Length 570 is 6.75m (in my opinion shorter is better)

Payload 570 is slightly higher

Loo/Shower The 570 is fine if you are not large or tall, but the 580 has a larger loo/shower room

Extra wardrobe. The 580 has an extra full length wardrobe, which ensures your linen suit and ballgown do not get creased.

For tall people (well over 6') the 580 can have the top half of the wardrobe removed and it then becomes a hanging cupboard for your ironed shirts. This then makes the right hand bed longer by at least 6"

We looked at both, and preferred the 570, not as good a loo/shower, but shorter, higher payload, and no need for a wardrobe. It then comes down to items such as an oven etc.

FYI: 6.75m is the standard length of a LWB Transit, Sprinter, Master and Crafter vans.
Which means garages and parking spaces are geared for that length.
Go any bigger and you are no longer a 'Sprinter Box Van', and you will get sucking of teeth on weather it will go on the ramp or fit in the space.

The Crossover version has a load of extras and is a higher spec vehicle although very similar internal layout.

Many thanks for your detailed info Brains it's very much appreciated, to be honest I'm leaning slightly more to the 570 as things stand at the minute but I think I will give them both a thorough examination in the flesh once I'm back in Europe or UK and go from there, many thanks again 🙂

Getting there!
I'm firmly in the 580 camp ... I wanted a 570 because I figured the proportions were about right i.e. length v wheelbase. However I didn't fit inside it properly. The bathroom is only just good enough on the 580 as the shower is tight for me to get in and out of due to the way the door folds, but it was the beds that ended up being the deciding featue.

I think the 570 bed length is 190cm, on the 580 they are 195cm but I have the XXL bed extension on one side which I think takes it to about 215 cm. With the centre section in the bed is huge. I changed the springs to Froli and added a mattress topper. it's really comfortable.

We are 5 weeks and 4500 odd miles into our current trip and there is very little layout wise that we'd change.

The overhang on the 580 takes a bit of getting used to, I'm more careful since I gained a battle scar by not figuring the tail swing!

They are slim and so pretty easy to park. We ended up in some stupidly narrow, tight side streets in Spain and it wasn't an issue.

Mrs ABGS has taken to it and has no qualms about driving it in the city, motorways or down a rutted track in the back of beyond.

Our trip average is 24mpg but Morocco and Spain are pretty hilly.

Check to see if the one you are looking at has LED headlights - they are very good. When I was looking you couldn't get RHD 4x4 AWD vehicles with LED lights.

The drive is very car-like once you are behind the wheel. The AWD 4x4 is excellent, very reassuring the road and great on the loose gravel tracks.

These machines are way to bulky to seriously take 'off-road' but we found it to be exactly the right vehicle in Morocco for most of those little interesting gravel roads and tracks. The overhang on the 580 would limit you in a proper off-road situation but I reckon if you'd got that point then you probably shouldn't have taken a 4 ton motorhome down that route.

Interior build quality is good but let down by penny pinching weight savings. That said the drive is very quiet and no real rattles.

We've added Amplo levellers - recommended !, a Maxxair Fan, Sog and an exterior Gas socket.

On the still to do list. - Solar panels and a suspension upgrade.

The suspension is OK but the damping doesn't seem up to the job when fully loaded. They also sit lower at the rear than the front.. I'm thinking of upgraded dampers front and rear and maybe an extra leaf in the rear to give it a slight lift. - Still to be figured out.

Ours is a pretty high spec, slightly better than the Crossover but without the light bar and fancy graphics. We didn't spec it - it was a German dealer stock item with a nice discount and a favourable exchange rate. If you don't mind LHD the 580s are noticeably cheaper In Germany.

From my order form .. translated using Google Translate..

Thank you very much for your detailed insight and comprehensive information on everything, again it's much appreciated
The good thing is my few grand deposit is securing either or of the two so it will be down trying them both out and taking particular note of what your saying about shower size and bed size etc, as regards tail swing etc hopefully I'll be fine as I had 10 years of three 9 metre Burstner Elegances and was fine, although I loved the tag axles on them, but anyway many thanks again for your input its greatly appreciated cheers Paul

570 vs 580

Looks one of the major considerations is the size of the occupants.
I'm 5'8" and the wife is 5', neither of us is particularly large.

On the 1st step up to the bed I can stand up straight, but if I were half an inch taller (or in shoes) I'd hit my head.

It's also interesting reading the spec of the 580 ordered in 2024.
Some of the 'extras' were 'standard' in my 2018 model.

Our van, as it was the dealers demo van, was fairly low spec, it certainly did not have any extras that the punters could not touch.

I'll read through that spec carefully and see what we could fit ourselves, such as the extra sockets, and the insulated curtain in the cab.

What on earth are these things on the end of a cable at each beside and the cable is just hanging there, looks odd to me 🤔

Those slatted walls are (I think) one of the better features HYMER added to the new trim. They could probably have run 12v rails inside them though like on the new Adrias.

Jane here - does anyone know if you can buy the slatted wall stuff that Hymer uses? Would be a nice thing to be able to add.

It’s a really thin plasticised type sheet. I’m sure I’ve seen similar used in self build vans.

I had to refit most of my panels coz Hymer can’t put screws and damping pads in properly….

I can’t sit up in bed properly in the MLt - I could in my baby A Class Carthago.

I think the Carthago was more or less the same height overall but sat lower to the ground. The double floor meant that the overall body section was taller than the MLt. The Carthago garage was the same height but as the garage floor sat lower to the ground it gave better headroom above the bed.

In a MLT, size of the humans is important.

At 5'9" I can sit up in bed, no problem.
I can stand in the shower and stand in the bed area without hitting my head.

I suspect the designer of the vehicle was the same height as me, as any taller and you will have issues!

Another fact …. 4 hours up the motorway at 70 mph fully loaded = 22mpg. I couldn’t get my good lady wife to ease up on the throttle….

I get 23-24 MPG (= 10litres/100km)
I tend to stick the max speed (or cruise control on the rare times I use it) at 63mph/100km/hr

Which is 66 on the speedo, but 63 or the more accurate GPS

I find at 70mph, on UK roads, there is too much rattle an hum.
You are also competing with too many cars.

I prefer to be going just faster than the lorries, which means I only have to worry about the next one ahead.

I can get 26 mpg at 60 - 65 mph. Mrs ABGS is just a hoodlum.
