Setting about renewing my licence approaching 70. Received forms D2 and D4 and medical booked with D4Drivers.
First relevant question is:

I want to renew or surrender my licence WITH the following entitlement:

The choices are Lorry and Bus.

Do I tick both?

This is how I do mine, at 70 and 73 and what I get.

My form appears as above. Perhaps I just need to select ‘b’.

What catagories are on your current license that’s your starting point for vehicle codes
Also section a. Is an application for provisional license.
So it’s b.

I currently have C1 but need to reapply at age 70 with medical or lose it.

I've just completed my C1 medical. About to send D2 form off but unsure about send proof of identity, section 5.

Part A i enter valid UK passport no. Then says you do not need to send original doc.

Do i still send a photocopy?

They can check your Passport details so no need to send it.
Take photo of both sides of Licence, just in case it comes back with entitlements missing !!

I think not - the number enables them to check

Also don't send any money, the form implies you need to pay if sending a new photo but 70 & over no fee.

Reading the D2 form, do I need to attach a photo when I have given passport details. I’m renewing licence for second time after reaching 70. Don’t remember sending a photo last time.

If you still look like the photo on your present licence you don’t need to send a photo

I recently renewed my photo license (not at 70yrs) and it came back with my current passport photo on it...

If you renew with more than 56 days left on your old licence you don’t need a new photo. If you have missed the 34 day slot between 90 days and 56 days you will need a new photo.

Since the new license is issued on date of application and not when the license is due to expire, this sounds like a bit of a con. From Page 4 of IFN 2D issued 4/22 supplied this month (see attached).

Highfour The AA issue guidance - the DVLA will use your digital phot from your passport. If you are not a UK National the rules are different. I sent my application off nearly two weeks ago without a photo so I will find out if the information is correct soon🫣
Edit My wife has reminded me that the same advice is on the notes that come with the renewal form (D46 PCPNR) applying by post.
“2. You do not need to provide a new photo with your application.”

Wondered if anyone has written a step by step crib sheet for applying to keep a D1 at 70 years old as it seems there are many of us going to be wanting to keep their entitlements 🤪

Just renewed our licences after our paper ones got 'lost' and both our photos and signatures were pulled from our last passport applications quite clever really.

Even better we applied over the internet on Monday and both new licences arrived this afternoon.

Quite impressive service.

Sideshow Bob I have commented on my experience with D4D: the doctor filled most of my form in for me and marked the parts I had to complete telling me what I had to write

You can’t print a useable D2 as it has a sticky back rectangle on the front for a photo (for those that need to send one in). You need to get one from a Post Office or apply to the DVLA for one. I took the form to my appointment with D4D. You can read about my experience if you search for my post in my “account”.

Thats why I was asking if anyone had produced a list

Is this the procedure please?

1) collect form D2 from main post office
2) take form D2 to the medical at D4
3) post form D2 with any medical forms to DVLC?

Not in my experience. I have twice renewed my C1 licence in the pre 56 day slot without a new photo and on neither occasion did the new licence run from the renewal date. Both times the new expiry date has remained on the original expiry date, this being the day before my birthday. No con.

If you supply a new photo then they might treat it as a new licence rather than a renewal and perhaps you then lose some time. I don’t know because I have never bothered with the new photo bit and got the application in as early as possible.
