I'm currently working on the heating and water supply in my van conversion. Am I correct in assuming that if one installs a pressure tank on the cold water feed from the pump there is no need to use the micro-switches supplied with the Whale taps? Which system is the better? Or can both be used in the system? I'm new to this as you might guess!
Thanks in advance, your forums are always so helpful (y)(y)

Personally a single pressure sensing pump outside of the system that can be easily changed is best.

Yep Shurflo (other brands are available) together with an accumulator and normal taps……

Switches I think, if you get a leak you don’t flood the van, you get a more consistent flow plus the pump is quite as it in the water tank.

I'm not sure what you mean by pressure tank. A MH doesn't have a pressure tank. If it doesn't use the microswitch system it has a pump with a pressure switch.

The pump takes water from the tank and pushes it under pressure through the pipes. If all the taps are off, the pressure builds up and the pressure switch turns off the pump. When a tap opens, the pressure in the pipes falls, so the pressure switch turns the pump on.

Usually the pressure switch is built into the pump, and is adjustable. However separate pressure switches are available.

Maybe by 'pressure tank' you are thinking of the accumulator, which looks a bit like a small tank and is under pressure. There is a diaphragm half-way up, with air sealed in the top compartment and water in the lower compartment. its function is to absorb the surges from the pump and provide a smooth flow. It also helps with the pump stop-start-stop scenario if the pressure switch is badly adjusted.

I got fed up with microswitch taps failing and got rid of the submersible pump and fitted a Shureflo pump. Noisier but so much better water pressure and more reliable.

Thanks to all who responded; I have a perfect picture now of how to tackle the task of water supply installation.
As I said at the start I find your forums and the generosity of respondents a wonderful help. 👏
