We are looking at doing the trip from Barra to Harris in May and wondered if anyone has any info on sites, wild camping spots, sites not to miss ect, we would be most grateful of any advice.

I can thoroughly recommend Balranald campsite, also the campsite at Borve on Barra. Didn't like Minch View campsite at all.

We had a really good stay there a couple of years ago. We wild camped most of the time in some excellent spots. East Beach on Berneray was a highlight as was Luckintyre beach. The sites we found fairly disappointing, limited facilities and sometimes a little noisy. Horgabost had toilets but no chemical disposal. Toilet emptying needs a bit of planning but the ferry terminals all seem to have cdp’s.
Shops were few and far between as were pubs etc, but that’s not the point of the Hebrides. It’s a fantastic wild land with a wonderful sense of peace and solitude....and weather! What weather! Don’t take a brolly, it’ll just be blown away.
Enjoy it!

We did the island's a few years ago. Didn't use any sites just enjoyed the beauty of the area and parked anywhere sensible. Remember to top off your diesel and water before going onto the island's. Enjoy.

We did the OH for Lorraines 40th and will be doing it again this April for her 50th, we loved it and at that time they didn't have many campsites and we just wildcamped with no issues.

The only downside (particularly for our friends) is the lack of dog friendly indoor dining establishments. We are aware of only one- The anchorage at Leverburgh
Does anyone know others?

Thank you. Yes we are aware of this site but it wasnt that accurate when we used it before. They charge £12 a year to view the list :(. However they do show 1 for free at each area so i have noted those (y)

Was hoping as we have so many Funsters with dogs that someone may remember where they have been with their dogs.....:)

Looks like there could be a funsters convoy in May. We’re thinking of going there too and leaving our France trip to Septemberish to allow the B****t stuff to calm down a bit.
We may flip the dates though if it’s still dragging on and on .... and on .....

We went to Isle of mull in july last year and midges were not a problem there, you can wild camp on calgary beach which is beautifull.
Didnt try the other isles as the weather changed.
Thinking of going again in May so will be watching this post

I can thoroughly recommend Balranald campsite, also the campsite at Borve on Barra. Didn't like Minch View campsite at all.
Been to both sites and also recommend. Borve is owned by the local postie , so postman pat van on site every morning as he puts names on reserved pitches .
Balranald right beside a nice beach , went in thigh deep with my dog , water was cold but it was a good day.
Further north and around 20 min drive to Callanish Stones is Eillan Frioch( forgive spelling possibly).
Also closeish to Butt of Lewis.
We were only on the Hebrides for eight nights , going back later in the year as we really enjoyed our time there. Only downside , we went from Oban to Barra first , five and a bit hours on the ferry , dog was bored rigid and I wasn't far behind. Isabel on the other hand slept for a couple of hours of the crossing. Next time we'll go via Uig on Skye , two and a bit hours from memory.
Sure you'll enjoy it ,
John

We will be on the Oban -Castlebay ferry on 10th May, and then slowly working our way up the islands from there
