I hear what is being said about costs and largely agree; but, it’s also about meeting expectations.
I’m seriously considering a Transit Connect LWB as mine is a solo project. Removing the passager seat and installing a roof box or a long rack certainly improves storage space and £5k can get you a reasonable basis for a self build.
Whether this is a viable long term solution is up for debate but for now it’s still a possibility.
