Glencote Caravan Park,Cheddleton, Leek ST13 7EE. Alongside the Caldon Canal and the Churnet Valley Steam Railway. Stayed there last weekend only negative is to access hard standing you have to drive across grass . Can recommend the Red Lion Pub for choice of beer and food.

Try @old-mo at Haughton, Cycle out of site, turn left and then first left down Station road to pick the railway walk up, turn left on there to go to Gnosall where you can get onto the canal. (y)

We stayed at Devizes C&CC site last week and had a wonderful time with brilliant weather. We scootered and cycled to Devizes and back and then went the following day to The Barge PH on the canal. We're hooked on canal walks and have bought "Canal Walks of England and Wales" by Ray Quinlan. The history of the canals is bizarre.

Wigrams campsite at the junction of the Grand Union and Oxford canals, good walk, boatyard and marinas nearby, pub up the road.

Can be very busy as they bend the 5 van rule, but nice quiet location outside busy periods. Stayed twice so can't be too bad.

Love Devizes, good one if you like cycling as nice wide towpaths and pubs in all directions(y)
Devizes is a great campsite and location - the tow path is brilliant EXCEPT we stayed over the New Year, year before last, and the hedges had been trimmed with blackthorn (?) cuttings all over the tow path. We had two punctures and almost every other cyclist suffered the same fate.

There are often C&CC DA meets and THS rallies which are adjacent to canals. There is a THS at Ripon race course this week and its quite close to the not so well known Ripon Canal. We did a THS last year at Limpley Stoke which was in a field adjacent to the junction of the Somerset Coal Canal and the Kennet & Avon. Usually plenty of rallies around Skipton which is an ideal spot to explore the stunning summit level of the Leeds Liverpool Canal.

Out the entrance of the campsite and you are on the tow path..

Lovely Camp Site and a pub/restaurant at the entrance...

And right on the canal a cafe where you can sit and have a Full English breakfast for about a £5... sit outside and watch the "Swing Bridge" and all the various boats go by... (y)

Cheaper to stay on their rally field as we did with Gloucestershire DA last year also. We had a drive down to Sharpness where the canal locks down into the River Severn. There was a rally in a field on the far side of the canal - bit industrialised however.

Not many canals near us but the Norfolk broads have many campsites nearby. Lovely walks all around there and a nice place to be.

A nice site, good pub, food and ale about 200 yards level ground walk.

Slightly uphill to the canal, once there, going west a beautiful ride to Brecon, a market town, great views all the way.

A nice cafe, canal side but slightly below in Talybont.

Many good pubs along the way.

Going east and south, you can ride to Newport. Again a good selection of pubs. Passed close to Abergavenny but the town is off the canal. Goetre Canal Wharf has a nice restaurant. At Pontypool there is a canal boat converted to a cafe. Then you pass through Cwmbran before reaching Newport.

There are plenty of off canal route excursions.

Wolverly C&CC is a couple of minutes walk from the Staffordshire and Worcestershire Canal - there's quite a nice hour-or-so walk into Kidderminster. Or at least most of it is nice - if you like looking at new housing estates you might like the bit at the end as well. Kidderminster itself....shops, traffic, shops, traffic....shops. Was glad to head back....next time I'll need to see what the railway museum is like.

The Lock Inn next to the site seems to be popular. The Queens Head in Wolverly about 10 minutes walk away was quiet weekday lunchtime - food was OK.

You can often find yourself standing next to Robert Plant at the bar of the Queens. He lives close by :)
