Quick walk round the picturesque village and getting bread from the shop revealed a lovely little village.
When we paid our 2 euros in the bar we think he told us the swimming pool wasn't open so whether that is included in your 2 euros or not we don't know.
Filled with water and ablutions done we made our way 8 km out of town to the via Verde. S4s has comments about smell of chickens from the Aire. We never noticed it.
4 vans already at the station after the windy but nowhere near impossible road. As soon as we got here we loved it. Smooth tarmac noted. Tunnel either side of the station. Superb picnic area. Plenty parking. Mountains all round. Stunning for us.
18km section downhill gradient so best surface we have been on in Spain. No idea how many tunnels. Guessing about 30. One was great as the lights didn't work. After each tunnel was some form of view, generally another tunnel.
This via verde is fast approaching top 5 status really quite easily and we are going the other way tomorrow and will be in warm spring baths later, and I think we have a wild beach tomorrow as well.
I am likely to update this journal later but no internet where we are staying.
There are stations along the way with bars/restaurants. I think we have seen 3. (Maybe 4) and motorhomes seen parked up at each one.
I gave up taking tunnel photos.
Stopped at Xerta and turned left into town to rest our well used senses with a beer.
We have just seen this. Following a broken saddle at Xerta the bike shop was closed. Saw a man round the back asking if he had a bolt for the one that sheared. He opened the whole shop for us and mended it (saving Paula a long walk home) and tried refusing payment so threw 10 euros on the counter for beer money.
Anyway it seems you can dump your motorhome at Xerta and this fella gives you a lift to the top and you cycle one way back. We presume there is a cost. Interpret photo below
When we got back I knew a place with warm thermal springs. So we went down this sandy track which was quite steep and astounded to see day vans, PVCs and one 7 metre motorhome parked in the car park at the bottom. We wouldn't dream of taking our car down there !
But there is a sort of gorge walk which gave us something different to do and some nice views. There is a bar restaurant down there and we came back the road way and through the couple of tunnels.
Probably not worth bothering about as tepid spring is far more accurate than warm.
There is the slightest amount of internet at the panaromic view point but not enough to upload photos from.
Staying the night here now. At least one other German here with us.
