We stayed overnight at the train station at Prat de Comte which is 8 km and 15 minute drive or hours cycle back to the town. Hilly and winding.
No trouble staying there and a German wohnmobile did the same. We saw some french we met the day before stay over at Bot Station and it would seem all the stations have the ability to stay over on this via verde which I ought to tell you is the via verde de terra alta.
We have also confirmed you can get a lift for you and your bike from Xerta in the morning. No idea of cost.
First up was the 742 m tunnel without lights and can't see the end. We rode side by side for double light from our bikes lights but it ain't great. In hindsight I should have taken one or two of my eye blinding torches i use at work. You could only really go at 10-15 kph through there and then had to mind the occasional pothole.
We also found out this is the route of 40 tunnels.
Unfortunately every tunnel bar one did not have working lights today.
One photo of what we couldn't see when cycling but it's all character building and no fun in life without a bit of danger!
Bot is the place with the train bar which was open on the way back.
We then got to Horta de st joan. An imposing hilltop town seen from the via Verde then disappears, we went up to it by going past the train station and turning left onto a road. Low gears and plenty of battery power were the order of the day and very picturesque so we paid tourist price of 5 euros for a herbal tea and cappuccino. Then saw that Picasso twice stayed here and there was a museum which we thought, if it was free, we would spend the money to go in. Alas, only open at weekends at the moment and no idea if you have to pay
Horta
Slightly annoyed by the uneven surfaces in the blind tunnels we saw a road that doubled up as a cycle route to Bot so we took this and came across a lovely clear bath/lavarie but we think bath
Then, a bit further down out of the corner of my eye we found Les Ollos. A series of rock pools with very clear water and a temperature that was near tempting.
It is in our "Wild Swimming in Spain" book and if we had some towels after a bike ride and it was slightly warmer, a good relax could easily occur here.
