The 2 lake photos of Schliersee at the start are the ones of the lake.
On the eastern shore there is plenty of parking running up the coast and wide enough for some tactical 7m motorhome parking.
It was about the only free parking available anywhere all day and has become a theme that had peed me right off about this road today.
It has been incredibly slow from about reit I'm winkle to past the tegernsee lake which was a complete nightmare. Heavy traffic unable to pass multiple single drop lorries on the road, nowhere to park and having to pay. Multiple traffic lights, almost incessant 30 kph if you were moving. The whole section from reit to before Garmisch was a mare. At the reservoir, we were looking at abandoning this road and heading north.
Don't let that put you off, just be prepared for it, and prepared to pay what we would say are extortionate Aire fees on top of car parking fees.
The Alpenstraße is a tourist tax heaven if you're not careful. But it contains lovely views almost permanently.
The road just prior to Garmisch and further on is significantly better and we missed out on a swing bridge in Austria over the road which looked pretty good
Having trouble with uploading all the photos of the road at different places ATM
