Have been meaning to do this for some time and from our base at Geisingen (separate entry tomorrow as the aire is a corker) I thought I had found a way to get there on the motorbike without having the hassle of a vignette.....wrong.
The road from blamburg goes through German then Swiss border controls before straight onto a non motorway vignette necessary road. I pulled off immediately not liking the signs at Bargen but the road went straight back onto the cost invoking road. What I missed was a bridge that goes over the vignette road and runs fairly adjacent to it.
My error was checking the route using mapy.cz and not putting toll free into it like I do with the satnav in the motorhome
Having got there we found parking attendants with directions to the free motorbike parking. We ended up going through a huge tunnel with junctions and trying to remember if blue or green road was where we needed to be. (Green is vignette)
We are now on the schloss side and note 20 CHF for the 15 minute boat trip each, which would nearly pay for a vignette !
But there is a platform walk for 5 CHF or 4.40 pounds. We plumped for this starting by walking into the schloss where the pay machine was with turnstile entry with your ticket.
There must have been 7 or 8 platforms descending and you get close to touching distance to the falls. The water level must be up at the moment following what seems and probably is weeks of rain.
At this stage selfie stick wielding hordes of Japanese tourists weren't annoying the bejesus out of me. That changed after we finished that side and walked over the railway bridge and they were out in full glory stopping traffic for 5 minutes for 28 poses each. Well I photobombed a number of them. Point press move on photos as the spots are limited.
Sound is good as well. Ice creams extortionate.
We worked out we did illegally use the road so bought the vignette in the hope it trumps a fine. 200 euros versus 47 pounds. We may have to tour ch next week just to get some value out of it.
