We decided the 28 English pounds required for 2 people return journey to Marseilles from Sausset Les pins was just far too much when we are full of electric.
After all, it was only 36 kms each way, and only one ride of about 700 feet.
This was a majorly poor decision.
Take train and nearly guarantee your survival !
The day started off well. We knew that our time ran out at 1726 at the CCP. We weren't overly bothered about another night but it was in the back of our minds.
The route took us to Carry with lovely harbour and the railway which goes a long the coast overlooking the beaches and fishing hamlets, apparently with lovely views when not in tunnels in its 43 minute journey.
It was from Carry that the incline came in up past Endues and this is where we saw our first dedicated bit of cycle lane which we presumed would see us to the old port. It was on the downhill stretch then we got to a tunnel, maybe 600 m still descending, no cycle lane, no signs saying yes or no. Our Napoleonic spirit saw us take the tunnel during a gap in the traffic
And upon exit we see another couple of railway bridges to remind us that we are sometimes too tight fisted. And the view that would be afforded those passengers
As we dropped down to sea level ish we looked for the cycle lane mapy.cz normally takes us on but we ended up on a dual carriageway with no dividing line. As we passed the ports it became a triple carriageway and our efforts to get the hell off that road were thwarted by the only junctions being peage ones. It was just after this under a bridge we saw a red Ferrari on the back of a right dodgy flatbed under a bridge with 4 or 5 apparent customers. It was at this point we thought the train was a really good idea not knowing which part of the European crime capital we were in.
But we soldiered on.
At this point I ought to mention one, or maybe 2, of us forgot the water shielded dashcam. Which in itself isn't an issue unless you planned on using it for an underwater museum.
Luckily I knew where our underwater Olympus camera was. And found it. Unluckily we had no charging cable for it.
So I bought a waterproof phone cover out of our railway savings for 15 euros and headed for the old port seeing this building which is probably important
The old port is certainly lovely. Well worth going.
After a burger king offering of large coke, bacon cheeseburger chips and an ice cream for 5.80 euros we found a huge ceiling mirror
Then to la plage de catalans. Phone into waterproof container. Seal it up. Checked it didn't leak with tissue, then armed with my snorkel face mask (without the camera attachment) I swam out the 150 m or so and asked directions when I couldn't find anything. Aim for the white buoy! Directly out from the little pier.
It was at this point I realized through the face mask with glistening sun onto the clear plastic that I couldn't work out the functions on the phone. A bit of reading water and I turned the camera on and took about 30 to 40 photos and, in my mind, a video. Swim back to shore, pass the phone to Paula who informs me the camera is round the wrong way
Not to be deterred, I put the camera in the right way and swam back out there. Upon return I checked to see how good my 30 to 40 photos and a video were.
It's fair to say rubbish.
I could see the statues clearly. If you decide to go. Don't bother with a phone camera. Useless.
Views as we tried to exit Marseilles without going into the peage and avoiding numerous tramline extensions which caused our day to be 82 kms and running out of battery on the ebike 100 yards from home
Then we got caught in a 7 km traffic jam but as we passed a viewpoint we went for the September photo of the month, something blue with a bit of your motorhome in it
