We decided we would go through this tunnel but armed with the knowledge that we would need our passports on the way back to get back into Austria from Slovenia.
The road up is windy but wide enough. We have been in a bus that overtook a tractor going downhill on this route.
There's a nice little rest points about 3km from the top with horned sheep alpacas and donkeys feeding and you can get down to the river for a walk or up to meerauge (separate journal entry)
You go through the 50kph tunnel which is probably a mile long on single lane traffic and the geographical border is about half way.
As you get out there is only one hairpin on the Slovenian side and about 2kms down is parking next to the remains of a concentration camp WW2 where prisoners were forced to dig the tunnel. 2 camp commanders were sentenced to death and the doctor who injected them with petrol given life but served 9 years before working in a Klagenfurt hospital.
The last thing we expected to see when we stopped was a posse of cowboys crossing the road !
The road down is wide, open and straight ish. Many motorbikes.
