Setting off from the stell we went to Laufen where we were told about an ice cream shop by the bridge on the Austrian German border. We spotted it in this quite pleasant cobbled town and dumped the bike for a walk round. Picturesque in our opinion it seemed like a haven for cyclists who like ice cream even at 1100 hrs. We spotted the cycle path along the river which would have been unswimmable. Also spotted was a 1.5m bridge height warning, possibly the lowest we have seen and interesting outside of a church. We passed back through later and there were even more hordes of cyclists as if this was Mecca.
We then crossed into Austria from Germany on the bridge for the uninspiring Oberdorf and turned right onto the 156 before managing to turn left (no left turn) and then a right at Schlöbl. How this road is not marked up as beautiful scenery on our Michelin map is a joke. Motorbikes galore around here on a Saturday.
We then spotted Haunsberg and walked up there in the hope of further views but the viewpoints had 40 feet high conifers in front of them. There is some sort of space museum up there. We just took the obvious road up to a restaurant and walked up from there. Coaches were dropping off walkers here.
We then went round Obertrumersee clockwise stopping at relevant obvious spots but each one wanted 7 euros to go onto the beach
There were campsites about but we were never going to pay that so we suspect that you might get some sort of card with your campsite to go onto beaches a la Carinthia.
Billa lunch got even cheaper even though she forgot the ketchup then back over hill for view of Germany from that hill
Before we made it back into Germany via Laufen and to Absdortersee which we suspect is a volcanic lake owing to the silky feel and colour of the water. It was the warmest lake to date.
Not great for sunbathing and certainly no good for children as the steps in went straight to being out of your depth.
We came back through Sulheim where they had a mahoosive trumpet next to a fire engine on a sports field for no apparent reason
