Thunderstorms at last overnight have brought some much required freshness to the air.
Good night's sleep was had prior to seeing the local police checking tickets against vehicles in the Aire.
Setting off early it was a play it be ear morning with this voie verte in mind.
What we also noticed was a voie verte that continued from mayriac but wasn't joined up yet so we tried to stop at mayriac but it now a CCP and god knows how to get there as signage sent us away from town down single track. So we gave up.
We thought we would follow the voie verte on road as a better idea and park halfway along it for free.
That was when we saw a lovely huge railway bridge that we both wanted to go over.
Next village up was Ydes and we spotted the voie verte and some designated parking. Out we popped.
It was good enough for us and we headed "down" towards Vendes which is where this route stopped and the next part was 4 or 5 Kms away.
Good viaduct, excellent 570m tunnel, annoying tight gates and interesting stuff en route the flat unbelievably smooth fully tarmacced surface came to an end and you dropped down a significant hill to Vendes.
Where there was a picnic area for lunch under that big bridge
Charged up with refs I made the decision we were going to see if we could cross that bridge as it was a footpath. We cycled back up the "mountain" to where the flat voie verte finished then along totally unsuitable for us surfaces of soft sand and loose rock before some boggy grass. Bikes dumped at this point
Then another tunnel. No lights. Paula feigned injury so I went through and the top of the bridge was there at the end of the dark tunnel.
I was expecting barricades stopping me going over it. But I could jump them.
Nothing was going to stop me now, I could see the solid surface of the railway line still in place.
Unfortunately these 2 Billy Goat Gruffs refused to move and just stared me out. I weighed up my options of 2 mountain goats versus me in Jesus sandals and thought these photos look fine, nobody will ever know I bottled it against a couple of kids (with horns)
So back up the path
And onto the other part of the same voie verte to Cheyssac with views and flatness
To find this at the end point
