We fancied this museum. We aren't really museum people but it's free with the Karten card and it had a steam train ride which floats 2 boats in our motorhome. Bung in some old motors I know nothing about and it passed the suavecarveometer test.....until the train ride is from 6th July to 10th August and today is 30th May.
So we put it on the backburner ..... Until today when we failed to cross into Slovenia because we needed our passports to return.
So we went to this museum instead.
Firstly, it is huge. 20 euros each or free with KC. But no train=no fun. However we did enjoy it. Trams cars motorbikes narrow gauge compartments signal points steam rollers etc.
We did manage a ride on a narrow gauge engine which went 40 yards up a track changed points and returned before returning from the beginning.
Then we saw the old bus which the literature suggested was an alternative return journey from the other train station.
Then the unmistakeable sound of a steam train going whoop whoop as it left the station leaving behind 2 sad faces. Quickly learning German I found out it goes again in an hour.
A plot was hatched to go a km down the road to the KC free gun museum which also didn't interest us and when we got there we decided no anyway, so we returned, opened our lidls tinned herring in a tomato and basil sauce and sat like a couple of hobos waiting for the train to come back and it did.
We may still go to the gun museum as there is a bee museum nearby (and Slovenia with passports) and I have beehives and used to keep bees. So potential for another day
We think this train ride was a one off as we realised today is a bank holiday in Austria
