Grey skies this morning meant that a jumper was in order with waterproof jackets at the ready, it didnt take long for them to come out of the Temu purchased panniers.
Out of the aire, we go along a little forest path to the dedicated cycle lane alongside the canal and it was a sand irons til we came across our first lock.
Thinking you would be bored silly of lock photos we waited for the second lock where there was an ancient water wheel
We continued on our way and found a little crepe wagon who shares his spot with a local sculpture. Had a chat with him for a bit as he made Crepes at Guildford at a food festival.
And this lock made it past the "Not another boring lock photo" ometer simply by having a couple of donkeys on the bridge
And after 59 kms of cycling this canal, we finally saw a moving boat. A day tripper from Dinan with 3 people on board.
We go to Lehon and noticed an aire beside the canal bank. Wouldnt like to park there if more than 6 metres but good if you fit into that category and just opposite the abbey.
An example of the pretty locks that I didnt take any photos of today
Then we approached the 12 km marker for Dinan. On the opposite side of the canal to here is a Summer aire on the grass.
And into DInan with its pretty little harbour. We have been here before so knew to what to expect
Apart from we didnt know what to expect. We didnt walk up this street a few years ago. And you must. It takes you to the walled town. We missed out previously big style. It s a bit Clovelly with the cobbled steps which can be slippery when wet (remember out waterproofs) but we got to laugh at a Gf laughing at her Bf as he went A over T coming down.
Through the walls the town is Crepes, artists and sculpture shops.
The basillica was closed as no possible entry due to ongoing works
And the view from the Chemin du ronde or ramparts of the aforementioned aire and town
Before the next part of our journey which was to the estuary, about 7 more kms.
Which we made as the boat was turning round on the lock separating the tidal part from the river and lunch was had here and we headed back.
We decided Lehon was our designated rest point on return, having noticed someing going on over the river and wondering where this abbey was. So we stopped and went into the Petit village of charachter (Who knew that !)
With church
Which was next to the abbey and free to enter, so we did
And as we did no research beforehand I thought I would take a look at the map and see what else was here. Oh no a free aire. Well I feel it my duty to take a photo of it, and then we realised we have stayed here before !
So back through the town
And then around Evran
